What is the missing factor? It is not more training

You have all these gurus teaching strategies of success, but knowing how to do something is only 20% of your success 80% is the motivation for you to actually put these things into action.

Gary Halbert said years ago he send out blank audio tapes (He wanted to sell the product but had not finished the info product) only 10% said anything so he said sorry we will get those right out to you and for your trouble I will send you this special bonus tape too.

So approx. 90% of people never did a thing. Venture capitalist who are business investors who invest 100's of 1,000 to millionaires of dollars into new start up business.

Venture capitalist have a ratio of 2% they only expect to make money on 2% of the businesses they invest in because they know most will not follow through just like us people who start business.

What do you think you can do to motivate a person to action (please share)

Respectfully,

If there was a way to motivate someone else to do something, whoever could figure it out would be the master of the universe....or at least be very rich!

There is really no way to motivate another person. Now I'm not talking about sales here, and persuading someone to make a buying decision. I don't think that's what you're asking.

It sounds like you are offering people an opportunity and wondering why they don't "see the light" the way you may have. People do things for their own reasons, and all we can do is show someone an opportunity, share our personal story, and offer to provide the support and training that they may need to get things moving.

You cannot get behind them and push, and you can't get in front of them and pull. You can stand nearby and cheer them on....but that's about all.

Great post David, so true. It's like weight loss or anything. Motivation is definitely an individual thing!

During the first ten years or so of my sales career, it baffled me that so many people are presented with the opportunity to improve our lives, make more money, start a business, secure our futures etc. I have yet to figure out a sure fire way to nudge people towards doing something... but I did figure out that almost all of us are bent on doing something, buying this, investing on that or the other, for whatever our internal motivation is.. If I just happen to identify them and position my product or service dead smack in front of them with an offer or service when they are ready.. then I don't have to nudge anyone.. My new approach; It's working out OK so far..

Although this isn't the mind warrior section of the forum, I do think working on the inside is the best way to "motivate" a person. Meditation and visualization I think is one key to more effortless change and action - an action that you want to do.

We can try and change our outside and discipline ourselves on the outside, and we can learn good principles and all, but I think the most important thing to success and action and motivation stems from the inside!
