sms marketing - a few questions - care to help?

Hi guys,

I am thinking of offering sms marketing to local businesses here in the uk, however there are a few things i'd like to know and your advice would be much appreciated.

1) do sms service providers assign you a short code or do you have to rent one and then link it to your sms provider?

2) once you have your short code can you simply purchase a new keyword for each customer or do you need to get a new short code for each?

3) most of the sms providers work on a vredit basis in the uk, can say a credit package of 2000 be split between more than one keyword campaign?

any help with these questions would be great, thanks for your help in advance!

Stephen.

P.S if any ou you guys in the uk could give me some tips it would be much appreciated.

    Hey!

    1) SMS providers have their shortcode that you use as a re-seller of their platform. You want to make sure the company you go with has been around a while, so you know that they can afford their short codes, because those things are expensive. Last thing you want is your SMS company losing the shortcode.

    2) This varies. Some companies charge you for keywords, and you have to mark up the price to turn a profit, and some providers do not charge per keyword. I am not charged per keyword, rather per client. I am charged $4 per new client. I would be wary of companies charging you per keyword, as on average businesses will have 4-5 keywords for different promotions, ideas , to take the campaign viral.

    3) I am based in the US, so I can not speak to this.

Since I am based in the US, and a white-labeled reseller, with my own branded SMS platform, I can only speak to my experience. The only way that someone would know that I didn't own the shortcodes would be to reverse engineer the shortcodes, to which I am sure most business owners do not even care.

Look for companies that talk about scalability, you want to be able to grow your SMS business, and at the same time your cost should go down. If you are sending 100K text through their platform per month in the next 6 months, your cost per text should go down dramatically. The more text I send through my company, the less per text it cost myself.

    Ryan
