    Great idea!

    But man this is getting too close to being real work for my liking.

    I just want to push a few keys and maybe pick up the phone once in a while.

      I know this idea isn't for most people, but I just wanted to share it for anyone that it might benifit and yes this business idea does involve real work

  • Martin, weird question but is the wood able to be planned and jointed into say a trendy piece of furniture? Is it usually pine or spruce or? That could be another advantage as I am noticing the price of raw materials skyrocketing due to fuel costs and peoples wants to recycle.

    For instance, I was thinking a table like in the photo. I'm thinking I would be able to sell these for a good price in trendy shops.
    Just an idea. Trying to put my nephew to work. Btw, the companies around here have sort of caught on to their value and it is hard to get them to give them up.

      I have a friend who used to take pallets and turn them into furniture, such as futon frames that he used to sell to college students, so I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to take the pallets apart and use the wood to buld tables or other types of furniture.

  • What a wonderful idea to put to work at my area. I live near some industrial zone where there are very much side companies of an automovile assembler (a very well known brand, though I don't live at Detroit) and here are a lot of chances to do this. Thank you very much for the idea Martin!

  • oh yeah we used to have people break in and steal the pallets at my old printing company I worked for. I would hit up trucking companies or rest stops. I say this because there was always a truck driver trying to unload pallets from a previous delivery. Im curious if you have any info on how to profit from the rubber pallets fro US mail ? Thank you for the idea
  • nice idea, though for people like me, who dont have a truck, any ideas how I would move these around? Thanks!

    • You would have a few options.... Pay someone else to do the delivery for you. Or, once you find a supplier and a buyer. You can go to a HD or Menards and rent a truck for like $20 for the first 75 minutes. Then you can go get the pallets with the truck and deliver them.

    Can you recommend the easiest places/stores to get these from? ie what type/category ... and by easiest I mean the ones that are willing to give the pallets away, as some of them might do the recycling themselves.

    I'm definitely giving this a try asap as I am short of cash

    • Great and totally new concept of business for me though working in plastic recycling business... But guess would like to start with this also simultaneously. By thus we will be helping a lot in waste management!!!
  • My uncle was informed by a friend's friend that you can actually get about $30 or so for the copper bits in a microwave - such as those people throw away cos it's too old. He used a very basic drill, and it took the guy just a few seconds to get the copper bit that's worth $30 out of the microwave!

  • I keep thinking about this just because I work part-time at a retail store located in a busy strip mall and there are TONS of wood pallets around. And I mean stacked! So, out of curiousity I asked around and most people will not just give them up to some Joe off of the streets...most send them back in their shipment trucks, which is their own recycling program. I'm guessing that if you were to have a nifty business card made up though, and really asked around you could land some pick-ups.
  • Before you start stacking them in your yard, make sure you agent violating any local ordinances.
