Sold A Mobile Site Without Cold Calling - They Called Me - Heres How!

Ok guys,

So today I was reading a thread and decided to take some action on the info in it, and it paid off.

Here's a little intro first though...

I used to work in a spanish restaurant and the guy who owned the chain (50 restaurants) sold the chain and opened a new Italian chain (currently 5 restaurants).

He opened one of the new italian ones in my city and he also took the manager from my old restaurant with him.

Any way I was on pretty good terms with my old manager and he became my target.

So here's what I done...

First of all I created a quick sample mobile website and uploaded it to my server.

I then used camtasia studio to go through 2 short processes.

1) I went to the google keyword tool and basically showed and spoke about the number of mobile searches related to the restaurant.

Now the good thing here is that I not only entered the terms for my local one, I also entered searches that would be used geographically with the other 4 e.g restaurant name + city.

Then I got the calculator up whilst still recording and quickly totted up the total number of searches for all terms (about 12 in total) and simply said "as you can see there are about 7000 potential customers you could be missing every month, in a moment I will show you where you're going wrong.

2) In this video I simply run their standard website through an iphone emulator, explaining what I was doing along the way. I also made a point of explaining that people would have to slide and zoom all over the page to find what they needed.

I then entered the address of the sample semi personalised mobile site explaining a few of the features like click to call and the maps and contact form and such and ended the video.

Basically I then added a personalised title screen at the beginning and in the middle between the two videos with camtasia and produced it to create one video (6 mins in length) and uploaded it to youtube.

Then I created a short landing page with a personalised pre heading and a main heading in bright red.

Basically the main header basically said I had found a problem with their site and it was all documented in the video below, so watch it now!

I embedded my video below the header and then signed off with a ahort measage below saying that if they would like to capture more customers with an good clean mobile site like the sample I would be happy to complete one for them.

I also listed both the address of their website and the sample site as clickable links and onstructed himbto check both on a smartphone if he could.

I then ledt my number and a short call to action.

Once this was done I titled the page as the managers name so that too looked personalised. e.g mywebsite.com/javier and uploaded it to my server.

Now it was time to contact them now I basically searched their site for a personalised email to my manager however the only means to contact was either phone or contact form, so since I was already on my comp the cantact form was used.

I personalised the subject with the managers name and my name, and also a brief personalised message briefly saying that there was a problem with their site and I had made a video to explain it.

I also told him to visit my video landing page. And that was it I sent it. athis was about 12pm today.

Now on their site it said they try to get back within 48 hours so I wasn't expecting a call today if at all, but...

At about 7pm the manager phoned me and said not only he but also the chain owner had seen this message and video, in fact the chain owner passed the message to him.

After a little small talk he said the owner was really impressed and would like to meet me tomorrow to run through everything and get thia set up.

Unfortunately I have a new sofa coming tomorrow so I just said I was busy with another client so hw spoke with the owner and called me back and I now have a meeting "for a beer or coffee" on Monday to get started on setting this up for them.

Anyway, that's how I done it guys, the whole process probably took an hour to complete and I am guaranteed a sale. Ok knowing the manager may have swung it for me, but hey I'm still proud of myself.

Hope this helps some of you out,

Stephen.

P.S These two guys are pretty influential people do you think I should charge them full price or help the out on the cheap for some referrals?

Charge what it's worth, underpromise and overdeliver. Then ask for referrals.

      Thanks Bryson,

I was thinking that, maybe if I charge less they will see it as a poor service. As the old saying goes "you get what you pay for".

      Thanks,
      Stephen

So you mean you didn't get a sale? If money isn't in the bank then a sale wasn't made. Nice effort on your part though, but I think a lot of these threads encourage people NOT to cold call, even though cold calling is very effective and efficient.

You're essentially waiting 3 days to close the deal and get money. Know how many sales you can make in 3 days by cold calling and taking payment over the phone?

Anyway, congrats to you and best of luck on your meeting Monday. I would charge full price.

Hi Iamnameless thanks for dropping in buddy,

I am not meaning to put any negativity on cold calling by any means, nor do I want to discourage people from doing it.

I am merely giving a little guidance on how I done it, as you know many people can't or won't get on the phone for whatever reason.

So hopefully this may serve its purpose and help said people to make some sales.

    Thanks,
    Stephen.

True, and I didn't mean that you were putting negativity out there about it. Just that people will do whatever they can to avoid cold calling, LOL. Great job though, come back and let us know how the meeting goes!

Good luck with that.. I would charge what is fair and then maybe take some trade for a break for them but let them know you are doing it to get additional referrals.. put it out on the table...

what software are you using to create your mobile sites?? I have quite a few local business connections and am just starting to do research on which software to buy build the mobile sites easily.. I am not a developer but can do the basics.
