I have a client and have no idea what to do.....

I just got a client thrown in my face. Offline SEO. I can do SEO. I don't know how to go about doing anything else!

trying not to crash and burn. I know what direction to go in, but I don't know about drawing up a contract, what to charge, etc.

I also was told that building certain types of backlinks like blog comments for offline SEO businesses is a bad idea. Argh!

Is there any kind of thread here educating about what direction to go in? I'm just a 23 year old guy who hasn't started a real business yet.

    Hey Tom,

Don't let your age be an excuse - I'm 24 and have plenty of well ranking offline clients.

Firstly, what business are they in and what did you agree to do for them? Did you agree to rank for a specific set of keywords, get more traffic?

Why does your sig say: "Put Your Sites in My Premier Backlink Network and GET TRAFFIC!"?

I would search more for "offline seo" "backlinking for offline clients" and stuff like that. I have no doubt you'll be able to turn up other threads discussing this very topic.

Like Steve said, you need to determine exactly what keywords you are trying to rank them for, and then of course determine the level of competition for those keywords.

I would then determine how many backlinks the sites in the top 3 positions on google for your targeted keywords have as well as page rank. Compare that to the number of backlinks your client's site currently has and that should give you an idea of how much work you'll have to do to outrank the top competitors.

Take a deep breath. Find out their competitors and some possible keywords that people are actually searching for. Have to know what to target! Start with that...

I'm confused... you said you do SEO? Why can't you do SEO for an offline client, which is a lot easier..? When you say you can do SEO, what do you mean by that? A lot of people can do SEO, but never have ranked in even a somewhat competitive niche.

For a start the price you charge your client is crucial. I would think as you have the client in tow you could ask for premium prices. Alot more as its offline and your client may not be aware of competitive prices online. Hence, he came to you. Offer a whole package of IM.
Your already onto a winner. Through this client may open up other doors offline.

    Good luck

Agree with steve holmes..age should not be used as an excuse here, you can do whatever you put your mind to! With that being said....theres many solutions for doing SEO for your client. You could go into the warriors for hire and find many seo services.

What I recommend, go to hubshot.com and use their reseller service. For a cheap price you can get full time seo for your client along with reports and it quality seo too.

    best of luck, Connor.

Alexa will tell you how many people using the Alexa plugin visit... Use Google analytics to determine their current traffic. If you don't have access to it - tell them you need to look and access their current traffic to develop an online marketing strategy for their business.

If they don't have it installed, they might have awstats on their host or similar.

You can use what analytics you find to determine if there are any long tail keywords you can target straight away that will bring in traffic.

Google Adwords is great for determining if there is any traffic for keywords without having to wait to rank organically for a dud keyword. Set an ad up for a day and see if you get any clicks, scale up to vector in what the organic traffic might be.

Get a good mix of keywords for your anchor text related to real estate in Texas for LSI - read up on latent semantic indexing if you don't yet understand what it means. You want to rank for a slew of keywords, not just say to them at the end of 3 months "hey you rank for x keyword, isn't my fault". Remember - if you do a good job with this then you can upsell Google places listings, Facebook and it can lead to referrals for more SEO clients.

How much are you charging per month and what are they expecting from you?

    Best,
    Stephen

Hello man, I went to hubshot.com but it's a blank domain.

Hmm, so there's no simple way to get a good idea of site monthly traffic?
I'll ask them for access to Google Analytics code.

Wow, you post is essentially chock full of info....

Like I said, I moved ass backwards into this. Don't have an idea of almost anything - what to charge, how to communicate, etc. We have yet to start talking.

Ah you know what - if you're not sure how you can rank them, hire someone who does and charge them 20% on top of that. You'll make money and what's much more important you'll get a chance to learn for someone who knows what's he/she is doing. So just stick with it.

You can do it for sure.

First do your homework - find out how competitive the niche is, then set your budget and finally find someone who can help you within that budget.

Good luck. Then again, luck has nothing to do with it, does it

If you believe alexa is a qualified way of checking traffic I think you need to take a step back real quick, and realize you likely do not have enough SEO knowledge.

I would seriously suggest going to odesk and hiring someone for SEO if you get this client. In the meantime, start reading up and learning.

As is typical, begin thinking from their perspective. Put yourself in the mind of a person looking to buy or sell a house. What are they searching? What neighborhoods are popular? Can you do some testing with Adwords first to see what people actually respond to so you will not waste expensive SEO services before knowing if they are words converting for them. In my area I happen to do good with "invest city" or "moving to city" because MANY people are buying investment properties from out of town. Keep thinking from their perspective, not yours (which I assume is to sell them a service).

Also consider rental marketing for them as well because 33% of people live in rented homes and some agents are catching on to the cash they could make being a rental agent. Pretty easy to offline market rentals.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.
