Video of my team in Philippines & Outsourcing

It seems like yesterday when I was buying all the wso in the world to start my SEO & Web Design Company.

I've burnt a lot of money buying & testing all the methods out there. It was a long ride and very frustrating but it was well worth it!

I just wanted to give back and show you guys what I've been up to. If you guys have any questions about outsourcing, let me know.

Hope this video can motivate some of you guys to go out and TAKE ACTION!

Edit:

Guys, I've been getting a lot of messages from people asking if they can use our telemarketers to close deals. I'm all game if you guys want to hire our company for Web Design & SEO but we don't offer VA and telemarketing services. Not to sound like an asshole but why would I want my telemarketers to close deals for you when they can spend that time to close another deal for us.

Interesting... I never thought about offering my services on the forum. But if you're really interested, send me a PM and I'll send over our Portfolio. (i kinda don't like revealing my website but i think one of our guys said the company name on the video. lol) The reason is because we don't want our link to pop up and have our clients see that we also have an overseas team.

Anyways, you're more than welcome to visit! I'm all game for hanging out with like-minded people.

From my understanding you have to show 200k in your bank if you're not a Philippines citizen or you can partner up with someone but have to give 55% share to a Filipino. Or you can marry a Filipino.

As far as the price it's a lot cheaper than my office in America but it's still pretty heavy. I would recommend you to talk to a lawyer about more details.

And it's been great working with my team in Philippines. It's great to surround myself with like minded people to help me reach your goal and dream.

I'll send you a PM. I don't like to mention my website on the forum because I don't want any of my clients to google our company and see this post come up. I prefer to keep it on the low that I also have an overseas team.

I'll PM you our Portfolio and I'd be happy to take on your projects but we don't offer VA services. Our project manager can handle everything from start to finish if you have a client you closed.

200k USD or 200k in the Philippines?

How do you avoid power outages or connection losses when so many people over there seem to have those issues?

Another question, you do have telemarketers in the philippines? How does that work out for you and are you calling american businesses?

I wish I would have checked this thread out before but for some reason I avoid certain threads without ever checking LOL.

We just hired 2 new telemarketers today to test then out for a week and will be hiring another 3 by end of the month. And yes, they are calling American businesses and they work in my (EST) time.

And you probably missed this thread because the title isn't catchy enough for WF. Maybe I should name it "How to Outsource your Life and Make $100,000." KAKAKAKA =X

Btw, like you said I like to walk the walk rather than just talking about it. I have a love & hate relationship with the forum. I know there are a lot of experts here and I've learned a ton but sometimes I feel like it's a place where newbies come to sell WSO after closing 1-2 deals. I believe that the forum is a great place to learn and people should implement what they've learned RIGHT AWAY instead of reading more threads and buying more WSOs.

      Thanks Liz!

We plan to be the #1 SEO & Web Design company in America within 3 years. So we have to hire a lot of great talents and really take it to the next level.

If people want to grow their offline business to 100k/year there is no reason to build a team overseas. They can just outsource to a company or create a small team to support the system.

I have people on a fixed monthly wage so they feel secured and can work at their full potential. I pay anywhere from $250-$1500/month depending what their jobs are.

If you want the best, you have to pay them more than average.

The interesting thing is... I go out and party with them on the weekends and the star players usually have friends who are star players. That's the best way to hire people by asking your star players if they know any other star players who are willing to join the team for a good pay.

    Hey Chris,

I'm doing the same thing but in the US, just hired our first telemarketer and he will start today actually.

Question, do your telemarketers close purely over the phone and send a invoice to your client or do the set up meetings?

If it's a basic 5 page website we have them close but if it's anything more than that we have them pass it on to the project manager so they can come up with a quote. We wouldn't want the telemarketers to close the ones that might take 2-3 months since they don't have enough knowledge how long the projects will take. Hope that answers your question.

We have a team in three different locations in Philippines and one in Philadelphia. The one on the video has about 10 team members from what i remember. I honestly don't have the time to count all the team and to memorize everyone's name. =X I love my team but the only people I communicate with are my project managers.

Well our main team is in US too. We're actually based in Philadelphia, not Philippines. Anyways, p1 I believe we use to chat before. I'm glad you're doing great! We also just hired 2 new telemarketers on Monday. My advice is to give them a week to see if they can close. If they don't, you have to let them go...

Well we PREFER to close by sending an invoice rather than setting up a meeting. And even meetings, we only go to the ones that are 110% hot. One biggest mistake I've made in the past is setting up appointment with tire-kickers. I wasted my time pulling a report and meeting up with them to go nowhere. So now, we only set up a meeting if it's HOOOOOOOOOOT!

Thanks Chris, glad you're doing well also.

I gather my leads based on if they have a websites or not and have my telemarketer ask for the biz owner by first name to get him on the phone. Then he can pitch him/her the best he can.

Is that the basic formula or am I missing something with lead generation?

Well it depends what you're going for. We have our lead generators to pick a niche and collect all the websites that are not listed on the front page. And they try their best to get the biz owner's name but if it's not there the telemarketers ask for the person in charge of marketing.

I hope that helps and good luck!!!

By the way, I got bored today so I decided to do some cold calling and I found out that I'm pretty bad at it. haha =X

So I spoke to a lawyer in the Philippines. I'm probably going to set up shop over there before 2013. This is the copy of the email I received back.

    Dear Nathan,
The company can be 99.99% foreign owned, as it will be an export enterprise if more than 70% of its services/products are exported.
    Example:
    American shareholders 99,997 shares
    Filipino shareholders 3 shares
    Recommended paid-in capital PHP100,000
    Regards,

110k PHP is like $2,400 USD.

This is a pretty good deal...

Right on. I was going to go with that, but I see that skype has a "fair usage policy" that only allows 50 unique calls per day per subscription... have you ever had an issue when you made over 50 calls with this?

What skype plan are you on? do you give each guy his own skype number?

haha exactly what abbot said... the 50 calls a day had it's limit so we had two account for my guys. And yes, I give my guys their own skype number.

At the end of the day, our guys don't make more than 50 calls anymore. We're going for quality work than quantity. We like bigger projects that are 3k+.

Yesterday I had someone who wanted 3 websites done at $3,000+ each and another person who needed edit on her site for $45/hr, also a SEO client. We're kinda overflowed right now until I get back to Philly.

btw, I'm actually flying back to NY right now so I won't be able to reply for couple days.

          Hope I answered your questions.

Hm I'm wondering whether you can pay per minute after you have used the 50 unique call limit. But setting up multiple subscriptions is probably the way to go. I want to hire some telemarketers and get them to call from the skype accounts I setup. How does it work when they make the calls and the client calls them back on that number... is it best for my telemarketer to tell them to call my "main" phone line so that I can deal with them? (how do you guys do it?)

It does go to the main number which is to the skype but since I'm back in Philly now, I should forward it to my personal phone.

And when they call back, it calls back the person who dialed out. And we're perfectly fine with that. If they can't handle the client, they simply say "hey, I'll have my project manager call you within 2 minutes."

My guys handle the outbounds and I handle the inbounds. I actually love getting on the calls but HATE calling out. If it's a huge project I can't handle, I just forward them to my project manager.

Originally Posted by D37 View Post

877 is just a forwarding number. I forward it to whoever I want it to. If I want my main project manager to handle it, I do that and on the days I want to be on the calls, I forward it to my personal cell phone.

People here are awesome. We work hard and PARTY EVEN HARDER!!!

I ended up falling in love with riding jeepnees and tricycle. My guys are always asking me why I won't just take the cab but I really wanted to learn and get to the know the culture. Plus, I stay up with them 9pm to 6am just to show them that I'm here to back them up and I'm not one of those rude foreigners who don't give a ish about their team.

Same here. My teams like my friend. I know this sounds cliche but they make my dream come true and that means a whole lot to me! =)

Thanks! Within a year we plan to put up a building. I can care less about what people in the town thinks about me but I do care about my team's image.

It's really not about money for the senior developers and star players. It's about working at a respectable place where all the IT guys dream to work at. That's what were creating for the team. And it's good for us because all the fresh new grads will be lined up to get an interview from us.

First off I want to say Chris is a stand up guy. We need to talk on skype sometime like you mentioned. I need help honing in the telemarketing process as we are just diving huge into this.

Not trying to high jack your thread, just figured I would chime in to help some others interested in starting their own team.

OK, as Chris stated earlier there are a few different options to setting up shop here. You can own a business here, but you need to give some shares to either a lawyer, accountant, or a filipina/filipino.

Whatever option you take you want to get it drafted and notarized so if anything goes sour it will hold up in court.

If you are serious about establishing shop here I would recommend coming here and staying for a month so you have time to hire people and learn a little about the culture. However I would not recommend riding the Jeepney's if you're white because your a target to get pick pocketed. This isn't always the case, but it happens a lot. Chris may have been ok because he's asian

You need to find project managers you can trust. Since I live here 9 months out of the year I oversee everything. Your project manager should be your right hand man. You take care of them and they take care of you.

        Internet
The internet is not fabulous in the PI. It's nothing like we have back home. For a 1mbs portable wifi connection I pay $25 a month. This is the line I work off the most. It's great for working, but can be very unstable for skype calls. If you're going to run a center you need a stable line.

My up to 10mbs connection(notice I said up to) cost around $90 a month. The really nice business lines cost up to $1200 a month. So to have top of the line internet it can be costly. The $1200 plan is for like serious call centers. So for the average person the $90 a month plan should be fine. Just dont cheap out on internet thinking your going to run 5 people on the same connection. Not going to happen. I see this a lot and I can't help but laugh.

        Phone

The main choices are Skype, Vonage, Magic Jack Plus, and other VOIP services.

I'm currently using Skype, but I have a magic jack plus coming in soon so I'm going to test this out. It's unlimited free calls to the US for $25-50 a year I believe. I hope this is as stable as everyone says. If so I'm ordering 10

        Culture:

Filipino's prefer a stable paycheck over freelancing. Filipino's work on average for $8-10 dollars a day in most trades. I was amazed to see construction works make $10 a day, when at home some of them make $70k. So a filipino would much rather know they can pay their bills every month and provide for their family then have to hustle every month to make ends meet.

Filipino's get paid on the 15th and 30th of every month. Most like Western Union if you're abroad so they get paid instantly. If you pay through paypal make sure to pay a few days early so it's deposited in their bank on the right day.

Filipino's depend on their money and 1 day late can really stress them out. Trust me, my filipina hates when clients pay through paypal and it takes an extra 3 days to deposit and she needed it on the 15th. Makes me mad to because I have to hear about it :p

        Pay Scale:

I'm in Manila. The reason being is most of your talented developers, designers, or any high end job like a lawyer migrate to Manila from the provinces to find good jobs. The jobs are in Manila. So these rates are for Manila. Cebu is another good spot and it's cheaper there.

These are monthly rates and 40hrs a week. These prices are based on what you can get lower end people to the high end senior developers for.

        Data entry- $250-300
        Web Design- $400-800
        PHP- $800-2500
        Ruby on Rails/Django- $30hr or $2500-4800
        Mobile Apps- $800-1200

Note: With high end developers you need to keep them happy. They bounce around a lot. They always have someone else offering them more money. So to keep a talented Developer with you for a long time you should go out of your way to keep them happy.

Note: When looking for PHP developers do your research and ask for an extensive portfolio. It's a common trend for them to say they are mid level developers when in reality they are not. They will say they are mid level because they have X amount of years in the field. They may not have much experience, but they will tell you they are mid level and some even will say senior.

Keep all of your employees happy regardless if they are data entry or senior php developer. Do some research on them and find out what they like. Sometimes just sending someone and itunes gift certificate because they are a music buff makes all the difference. Give them a Christmas bonus if they are a great employee.

The one thing I've noticed in my time here is most Americans or Westerners don't respect the people. I don't associate myself with that many of the foreigners here because they come here for one reason. To use the women!! Some are even rude to filipino's in general and act as if they should be treated like a king because they have money.

Treat a filipino like you want to be treated and I guarantee you will not find a more loyal employee. Filipino's by nature are friendly, respectful, and at the end of the day just want to know they served their boss well.

If they are making you tons of money, give some back. Just like Chris, I treat my employees like they are a member of my family. Without them my dreams wouldn't be possible. If you give them a $50 bonus for doing well they will be happier then you can imagine. To you it may seem like pennies, but to them $50 can buy a lot. The little things go a long way.

It's about time for bed and this is all I could think of off the top of my head. Hope that helps.

Chris get at me when your free so we can bounce ideas of each other. I know your a busy man, but either way would like to catch up. Thanks for giving me the motivation to real kick things up a notch a while back. I was frustrated at a job and trying to manage my business. Now the job part has been handled

Damn bro, you just dropped mad knowledge.

You're on the dot with everything about partnering up to the hiring and the jeepy thing. I can't believe no one clicked "thanks" on it. At least I know you're the real deal.

I'll be back in 3 months so let's meet in the middle with the jeepy driver.

btw, I'm so happy I'm back to my usual internet speed. I never even knew about speedtest.net until I got there. I started appreciating everything in my life more like my car, meeting with 2-5 clients a day, the drive, the jog, EVERYTHING! haha

I completely agree. I miss my car, I hate walking. I workout at the gym that's good enough for me. My girlfriend walks everywhere. Drives me nuts.

The internet here drives me nuts. I also left my amazing computer setup back home with 3 monitors and only have my mac pro here with me. Took some major adjustments.

Things are looking up for me. We just partnered with an American who owns a multi million dollar corporation. He refers to us as his web geniuses
He just gave us a 15 person office, giving us computers, desk, chairs, and hooking us up with a business line. I love networking

We also network through all of the local expat hangouts and social clubs. Tons of money on the table.

When you come back hit me up. I live in a condo in Makati. If you want to come to Manila or we can arrange to meet up somewhere. I'm traveling to Bali and few other places for business meetings over the next month, but will be free by the time your here.

      To answer businessnewbie question:

You first need to focus on getting clients and finding your market. Once you have the clients coming in it's time to reinvest and outsource and focus on just closing deals. Outsource every task you can.

Funny thing is I did the opposite of what I'm telling you. My business actually failed about 3-4 months ago. I built my offline business up to replace the income from my good paying day job. It took me a year because I was learning and applying. However after I got to where I was comfortable my girlfriend cheated on me after 3 years and everything come crashing down from depression.

I hated offline marketing and was done. Stopped doing everything and lost clients. After I got over feeling sorry for myself I said I can do this again. I sold everything I owned( car, electronics, anything of value) and booked my ticket to the Philippines with one goal in mind. I make this work or I fail and have to move back in with my parents at 26 years of age.

Well the first month was a little rough. I begin doubting myself, thinking I made a huge mistake and i'm about to blow through my savings.

After I adjusted and got use to the culture I started working everyday with my business partner(girlfriend) and now everything is falling into place. We have 6 developers currently, hiring 10 cold callers(commission) within 2 weeks, and looking into hiring another 4 developers very soon.

I highly suggest you don't do what I did unless you have brass swinging balls

I took a huge gamble, but i believed in myself enough to know if I did it once I can do it 100 times over again regardless how many times I fail.

Find your market, get your feet wet, and then scale. Same as internet marketing.

The easiest way to really get started without even coming here is networking. Find someone you trust and outsource your work to them. I can tell you it takes some work to find good people who are reliable. Even though this is a English speaking country it's hard to find good reliable people. Most people have a relaxed attitude. Once you find good ones, hold on to them because there outstanding.

There is three version's of English here.

It's functional and comprehensive. The third is what I like to call Hybrid.

Functional- They can speak english, but it's just the basics. Sometimes they won't even understand what you are talking about. They will say yes just to be polite. They may not understand you.

Comprehensive- They understand, but still not perfect. They still could have broken english.

Hybrid- Perfect english. If you talk to them on a telephone you would think they are American. They understand American phrases, jokes, lingo, etc... My girlfriend is a hybrid. These are the type of people you want cold calling America.

Some business owners get thrown off when it's not perfect English. They feel like they are calling customer service for a credit card(frustrating).
With good english speakers you won't have this problem. Maybe Chris can chime in more on this as I'm just getting into cold calling and I specialize in web development.

So the easiest way to take out the headaches is find someone who already has setup shop and workout custom rates with that person. Let them handle the headaches. Lucky for me I have a Filipina who knows how to deal with the people, knows the laws, has a lawyer, knows all the rich people in town for networking, and I come into play with guiding the team and marketing.

With all of that said, you won't find better workers and trust worthy people anywhere else for this price. You take care of your team and they will take care of you.

Ok enough babbling. I have to get prepared for Bali tomorrow

Thanks so much for your insight, and giving up so much information. I believe I do have a niche here in my small town and I have a big vision. I want to bring my daughter on board who is 13 so she can learn from me as well and build herself a nice nest egg over the next 5 - 6 years.

Wow, you nailed it pal. I couldn't agree more. You are pretty spot-on with what you have written here.

I am not sure if I can call myself as hybrid with respect to speaking English, however, I have learned lots of American slang here at WarriorForum.

I have nothing but respect for you. You have adjusted yourself to live in a developing country like the Philippines. I commend your Filipina girlfriend as well.

I am touched with your story. We will never know until we try. Of course, we should always set our goals and pursue them whatever it takes.

        More power to your business.

When I first got started I just hired buncha people because I knew I was going to make this work. I'm a strong believer of swim or drown mentality.

I wouldn't recommend people to do what I did but that's just how I like to motivate myself because I don't want to drown.

Wow. This thread is very inspiring and very informative.

I am a Filipino and I always love living in my country Philippines. Reading through the wonderful commendations encourage me (more) to work harder and better for my clients. I am a VA and currently starting a small team. I am looking forward expanding my team because, of course, not just to provide for my family but also to help other individuals who aren't able to get a job (sometimes due to age or other circumstances).

I just couldn't help but reply to this thread because I am thankful that there are many out there who expressively appreciates the labor of Filipino working.
