How to get organised with offline marketing?

Hey guys,

I'm just wondering what kind of software you guys use to organise all the phone numbers you call, those who are interested and those to throw out?
I am slowly building a phone number list to call as from what Google Places has shown me, a lot of businesses are missing a crucial aspect of the marketing process: websites. I have worked at multiple telemarketing companies so I have acquired a good base knowledge.

I managed to reach my goal today and make 100 calls and out of these 100 calls, I've scheduled a meeting with 5. I would like to point out that my first day working for myself and it went quite well.

Here's what I said:
A=me
B= customer

A: Hello, how are you?
B: Good yourself?
A: I'm wonderful thanks for asking. I ran into a small problem today.
B: Ok...
A: I wanted to take my girlfriend out to dinner today and she proposed we go to "business name". I tried searching your place on the internet and took me 10 minutes only to find the address.
B: Ok....
A: To make things short, your online visibility isn't great and if I had such a hard time finding your establishment, just imagine the amount of customers you are losing daily. Anyway, I don't want to keep you too long but I have made a demo website for your business and would like to know if you want to see it...
B: Hmm, websites are expensive and I don't know how to maintain it so no...
A: I am not talking money right now. I made you a free demo and I am asking if you are interested to take a look.
B: Ok, why not
A: Sure, just give me your email address and I will send you a link showing your demo site.
B: Here's my email address "email address".
A: Wonderful, by the way, my name is "Name". I would like to make it clear that I am not a sales person and if you have any further questions please give me a call. Have a good day.
B: Thanks, you too.

Most of the time, when they gave me the email address it lead to a meeting.

What do you guys think about the method I use? What would you do to improve it?

Also, like mentioned above, I need a program for telemarketing at home...

Thanks guys!

      I like your style,

Very natural to the prospect and you got what you wanted, an email to follow up with him.

      Great JOB !

Hey, well done. That 5% result should only get better

If you do a Google search for "prospecting sheet template" you will get a few free ones to choose from including one from Microsoft Office.

    Hope that helps.

Take good care of those that you love.

I'm currently working on creating a piece of software that stores offline clients that I've contacted. It's fairly robust and keeps track of clients by:
Company name, client name, status (prospective, current, or former client), phone number, their website url, their email address, and the ability for extra notes. I can then search through my entire list by any of those values. It's saved me TONS of time. I've thought about selling it as a WSO for maybe $9 or something similar.

You're pitching a demo site and it seems to go really well - I think that's really cool. So I want to point out first that I think your approach with the soft sell and demo site seems cool to me....great stuff.

But I have 3 problems with your pitch.....

    (1) How did it take you 100 calls to find a place to take your girlfriend to dinner? x10 minutes of searching for each place, you spent 16 hours, or the whole day searching for all these places? You must've been searching for a very particular cuisine or ambience or something! Did your girlfriend know you spent the whole day googling restaurants to find the perfect one? I know you wouldn't have been lying to the business owner about taking your girlfriend out and not being able to find them online very easily, so I can't quite work it out!

    (2) How do you translate this pitch to other businesses? "I wanted to take my brother to a tax accountant today....?"

    (3) You would like to make it clear that you are not a salesperson???????

That's a very impressive Spiel, actually. Even just reading the dialogue, I can already tell that you don't come on as perky and as forward as typical telemarketers, and this is good because people won't immediately want to drop the phone on you. Do you actually use the "I wanted to take my girlfriend out to dinner" line with every call you make, or do you have several different scripts to shuffle through in order to keep things fresh and so you don't get bored? You should definitely stick with this personal approach because people will feel that you are more interested in helping them create a good website for their business than ripping them off. For sure, there is something you can do to improve that 5 out of 100 success rate such as mentioning that you are a professional web designer instead of saying "I am not a sales person." Some people may take this denial as an affirmation, after all. As for the software on organizing numbers, you'd have as much luck as any other in using google search.

There are a few things of concern here:

    1. You say you set meetings with 5% (5 out of 100 people you talked with). Yet I don't see that. You send a link by email.

    2. You say "How are you today?". This is open code for "Here comes a salesperson; get the defences ready."

    3. Your opening is deceptive: you first say you're having a problem and sounding like a potential customer, and then you switch.

    4. You give a blind link and wait for their response. This is like throwing your hat over a 15-foot high concrete wall and wondering what happened to it on the other side. Did they get it? Did the squirrels get it? Did they like it or not? Who knows. You may never know. This is a mistake.

    5. You straight-out LIE to them by saying you're not a salesperson.

Why are you embarrassed about being a salesperson?

    6. Then you pretty much just hang up. Why no setting of a clear next step?

I don't think you have 5 appointments. You have 5 people you sent a blind link to, who you'll probably never hear back from. This isn't effective sales methodology.

Even the title of your post is deceptive: your post really isn't about that at all.
