Anyone see this offline business opportunity advertised in Entrepreneur mag?

I have read Entrepreneur magazine for years...gets the creative juices flowing and I generally just enjoy reading it. I began noticing an ad every month for this company:

http://www.environmental-waste.com/b...rtunities.html

Mind you...we are talking 5 and 6 years ago...probably a little longer than that. I don't have a subscription to Entrepreneur anymore but when I bought one in the airport a while back I saw this company is still advertising....anyways, as you can see if you visit their site, they charge a 25k fee to receive the training necessary for this biz. Not exactly a low barrier to entry there with that kind of fee, huh?

I was so intrigued by this concept (basically all you need to start this business is your brain and a phone) that I was able to find a site a few years ago that basically sold all the info that outlined this business model. (rehashed, of course) That site is no longer online...if memory serves me right I spent about $100 to buy some videos/docs that were mailed to my house...and if I kept the stuff for longer than 30 days they would hit my credit card with a charge of $1,000...but if I returned it I only had to pay the $100. So yeah I returned the stuff after I burned it onto a blank disc (sorry dude if you are out there somewhere but I didn't have the extra 1k to spend).

Then....I made a pot of coffee one night and stayed up the entire night learning the outline of this business. It's basically using high school math to help apartment complexes/businesses save money on their trash bill. I studied it more and more for a few weeks, and then...once I felt that I had a good grip on everything, I went online and ordered a logo for my new company. It looked good and very professional...I was excited!

Now came the hard part......

Cold calling owners of profitable apartment complexes to tell them I could save them a lot of money---if they agreed to pay me half of the savings I got them on their monthly trash bill.

So....I decided one Friday that I would start my cold calling the following Monday. Gulp. That Monday rolled around and I gave it a whirl. I think I contacted about 3 people total and was rejected by all 3. So then...I quit. I figured I needed a sales person to do the cold calling for me, but I hesitated because I realized that anyone who was good enough to do the selling could just learn the biz model for themselves and then I'd be screwed.

So yeah....I left it at that. That all transpired probably 5-7 years ago...not sure exactly.

Wish I would have some done research into all of these ninja cold calling techniques that I see all over WF now.

I have no desire to go into this business now. Just wanted to post this. :-)

Required Initial Capital Investments - $25,900
    Hmm... nice!

Dealing with "environmental" issues is bound to require alot of government legal hoops to jump thru.

yeah I returned the stuff after I burned it onto a blank disc (sorry dude if you are out there somewhere but I didn't have the extra 1k to spend).
Sorry dude...you are a criminal, and should be prosecuted for STEALING...

But, no worries...someone will be STEALING from you soon to even things out a bit!

Glad to see you quit... you should consider being HONEST in your next endeavor, of course if you have no conscience about stealing...why not take up a life of crime?

Some of those mobster guys make good money...you could always write an e-book about how to be a successful gangsta!

How can you have any peace knowing that you reap what you sow and someone will soon be STEALING from you???

I just happen to be an expert on business opportunities. I've set up over 2000 people in business. This "trash can scam" has been around for 20 years. It's in the same vain as power audit, trash audit and benefits auditing. The COGS is virtually nothing, it's just info they are selling. You can get the same info off bulletin broads and blogs. Start a real business offering real products and services.

Well I don't think it is a scam. They actually do save people money on trash bills that can be astronomical. I just didn't have the cold calling mojo to get it off the ground. One of many of my failed ventures before I found anything that worked for me.

It isn't a scam if done by legit companies. There are scammers in every biz so you have to be aware. The important point to know is that in this day and age, trash is BIGGG business and is a monopoly in most areas. Fortunately your politicians still allow companies to audit trash bills for businesses, municipalities, school districts, etc.

If you intend to pursue this business make sure the audit company you are representing has honest to goodness contracts and has performed. To actually become an auditor is almost cost prohibitive. However if you are willing to spend the time and money you can become one.

I believe the easiest point of entry is the sales level.

      Just my 2¢...

Wow, imagine what you could do with £25k if you spent it on local business mobile/SEO, etc. In fact, you can get started for nothing in this game...

  • Cool story I worked for a tools sales company they had us make 300 phone calls per day. For me I had to be pushed into this type of environment to make enough calls to make a living.

  • With that type of investment though I bet you they have a pretty good success rate. I have a program for $5K everyone makes money no some of my $200,$300, $500 programs still a lot don't follow through.
