Offering Business Cards as Incentive

I was thinking of ideas on what to offer as bonus to offline clients for buying my services, and i remembered, what about offering them a pack of 250 business cards with their new website address as bonus, it costs around $20.
Do you think this would be a good incentive for them to signup my services?
Have you tried this method or similar things?

I'm pretty sure business owners have a rough idea how much business cards are. That's not a good bonus. A great bonus is one of high perceived value and low cost to you. Business cards is low cost, low perceived value.

I agree. I think something like a marketing book which would cost you less, especially one you wrote (or used one the plr or done for you books) which also described some of your other services would be a much higher perceived value as well as setting you apart as the expert and opening the door for future business.
      Just my 2 cents worth.

    thanks both for your replies

i was under the impression that they would pay good money for them, as they wouldn't go online to buy business cards, instead they would go to local print shops where they would pay good money for them

    I dont't think it's a bad idea.
I mean ... if you design websites and your prospect has not the site printed on it (10 years ago in Italy this brought me some clients) it's a nice incentive.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea either. But you have to offer something more than just the business cards. Maybe your design is super awesome? Or maybe you can offer a QR code to them in their business cards? If it's a business that you can do this with, maybe offer a loyalty-type card (buy 10 get one free). Those are just some ideas that I think you may be able to use to make your business card offer even better. Then you get your foot in the door and offer your more expensive services.

With all due respect my fellow offline marketers, I think you are missing the real opportunity here.

I think its a great idea. It has nothing to do with what cards cost and everything to do with the fact that it establishes right away in the clients mind that the website was not just a good idea, but an important step in branding and rebranding their business on the net.

You can't just view this as "it's only a few bucks" so no big deal. What your doing is telling your client it's a new day pal. Now that you're where the big boys play, it's time to start recognizing everything else I can do for you. Like SEO, blog management, content management, hosting. Get the picture?

I agree, and I would take it a step further.

DON'T order the biz cards online.

Partner with a local printer and use the SAME printer each time.

You're not just giving value to your client, but you're starting to network. You can use the same printer for biz cards, postcards, flyers, etc.

Ok. How about taking it EVEN FURTHER.

Offer your client 250 Business Cards and 200 Letterhead papers.

Now hook up with a local printer and try to get a discount by telling them that you'll be doing this for all your clients...AND....since you (the local printer) will have the business card and letterhead designs already, you'll recommend their print shop to your clients for future orders.

Hm. That would be a nice little "Thank you" bonus.

You can further build the value of that offer by the way you word it.

It's 250 free Business Cards and 250 free pieces ofLetterhead....but you can also include the Design of those items as part of that offer.

Many Print shops make more off of designing the initial cards & letterhead than they do off of the printing.

Since you were going to be designing them anyway it isnt going to cost you anything extra but the Value of the Design Aspect isnt something that is going to occur to most Business Owners unless it is mentioned to them.

Lovely! I was just thinking: 10 years ago some clients of mine didn't put their website on business cards, but today it's impossible.... there must be something new to offer! QR code in Italy it's an untapped technology, despite the fact that we're the country in Europe Having the highest smartphones diffusion.

I think 512 Designs has a good idea going. It's a bit more than business cards and it also will help your local print shop as well as your customers. I feel it would be a win-win for all three parties. Let us know what you decide to go with and how well it pans out!

Maybe create a lead capture Bcard for them. Something to tie your two businesses together.

Maybe setup an email/phone capture for a coupon or.... you get the idea.

    Just thinking out loud.

I think this is definitely a good thing to offer. Many clients will find good value in this. Especially if you come up with a creative design.

Offer biz cards for free and then offer them a QR code on the card linked to a mobile site(that you will sell them and charge monthly to host) A QR link to a nice intro video would be cool. upsell.

Team up w/ biz card printers and set it up so they can offer the QR code service to their clients. Give the printer a cut of the setup fee and you keep the monthly mobile site hosting fee. The printer will sell mobile sites for you.

Depending on what you are selling, see if you can also offer support or a different incentive that allows you to keep in contact with your customers. After a while you should develop a group of repeat customers, and they are easy to get a second sell to if you have delivered your goods well. Since my designer offers support he has probably made 4-5 times what he initially charged, and I am still happily coming back for more.
