Lead Generation for Dentists

I was looking thru my archives for something else and came across a PostCard that made me Mucho Moola a few yrs ago and I thought I'd share it with you;

Here's what it is;
Some Dentists are always looking for "New Patients". Every week in Sunday's paper...there are at least 3 dentists with ads that have the "Key Phrase"..."New Patients Accepted".

That's CODE for...."HEY! I NEED SOME PEOPLE WITH MONEY TO FILL MY CHAIRS! I NEED TO STAY REGULAR WITH MY MERCEDES PAYMENTS!"

So....at a Chamber of Comm luncheon...a New Dentist in town stood up and introduced himself. He gave info about where he was educated and trained and talked about his new office AND....what caught MY "PROMOTER'S SPIRIT" was....He offered FREE Teeth Whitening to the first 50 people in the room (There was about 800 at that meeting)

This "blew me away" so....I went up to him after the meeting and got one of his "FREE Teeth Whitening" cards (for my neighbor's daughter) and asked him HOW was he able to do this when I've seen some Teeth Whitening Fees at $600?

I got him to confide in me and....he told me his cost was about $10 and 1 hour's time for his assistant. His usual fee is $280.

So....I then asked what he charged for "New Patient Visits". He said, $185 which includes...X-Rays, Cleaning and Consulting.

So...I asked him if I could stop by the next day...just before he goes to lunch (a good time to see dentists and chiropractors) to show him an idea I had to get him New Patients.

So...I made up a Sample PostCard (see photo below) which said, "FREE Teeth Whitening!" Call for appt 555-1234 x 123"

I told him there are about 120 people in the area who are either moving from one rental to another or...who have purchased a house. (I have a List Co)

I told him I would mail out this PostCard to ALL the "New Movers" every month and....I would charge him $50 for everyone who sets an appointment via MY Number (after 3 mos I raised it to $85 per appt)

I told him that since he charged $185 for the Initial Appt....he would still make $130 per New Patient.

He gave me the Go Ahead and whala...my mailing were bringing him 20 New Patients a month. I then went to other towns and set up the same program.

I am SURE this can be done nowadays! I just checked with my List Co and...in January there were 88 New Movers! Well worth setting up even in this down economy.

So...just some "food for thought" as to a way to bring in some bux.

Since I'm NOT selling the program...I won't reveal all the details. I'm only showing the Photo that got the attention of Dentists AND...New Movers.

Don Alm....idea guy

  • I have seen a lot of dentist do this give something for FREE then get more back end sales.

    In my consulting with dentist I don't talk about dental services for example 1 dentist our headline was "Discover the 7 simple secret that could add 10 years to your life!" (For those of you who don't many health problems start with your teeth and research show if you take care of your teeth this can add 10 years to your life)

    We then capture lead from website or prerecorded message then sell them a cheap product $7-10 invite them to come in for FREE teeth whitening back end sales with average person spending $7,000 per year.

      I started going to the dentist when I was only 3 1/2 years old (fell on a metal 3 foot low fence, teeth first). That accident has plauged me my whole life. Now, being in my mid 50's, still the plague. Not even to talk about the expense, lol.

      Teeth whitening to me is a joke, glad I have any,

      Eva

    As a window cleaner I found that if I did a postcard mailing and then followed up with a phone call I could get a 35% closing ratio. The follow up was the key.

    So you were getting 20 replies from about 100 or so new movers each month? Why did you ever stop doing this if it was so successful?

    This is a very good idea and an easy approach to the business owner: you only pay me when you see results....I'd like to give this a try but I feel like 1 in 5 is a bit high.

    Thanks for sharing this idea.

        If you follow the model though, current customers would not be receiving these postcards, unless they at a current customer who has only moved a short distance. The idea is to get new patients who don't yet have a dentist in the area.

    this is a great idea for getting new leads. the postcard thing can be applicable if you are targeting locally or in areas near your business. but how about for businesses serving the global market? i guess instead of postcards, we can use other channels of marketing too. the web has been proven to be a successful channel by businesses in targeting the global market but with this kind of "lead generation model" telephone marketing or telemarketing is very applicable if you are looking into offline marketing channel.

    This is a general question for dentists and doctors...how important is your company website in terms of bringing in leads? Do you ever do promotions online?
