Help, my first offline 'real' client

Hi,

I'm going to be helping my local hairdresser by putting together a WordPress blog/FB page/YT Channel. Can someone help me out with what may be a silly question please?

Do I get their domain under my GoDaddy account and use my HostGator hosting or do I set them up their own account at both?

I was thinking if it's on mine, I could easily get confused if I did this well (and I am determined I will) and then go on and take on lots more businesses.

So is it MY GoDaddy and MY HostGator or 2 stand-alone ones for the client?

Thanks

Trish

You can do either. It is really in your clients best interest to own the domain name..so I would have them buy that. Then as for hosting it depends on what you have. If you have a resellers account, you can host it and sell to them the hosting. If you have an add on account, I would probably just have them get their own hosting.

    Good luck with it.

Do you offer hosting and domain management? I think that is the question.

If you do not, give them your referral HostGator link and then do the same for Godaddy.

Having them manage there own domain and hosting gives you the ability to walk away easier if necessary and for them to write off the costs for tax purposes.

Thanks lilblackdress and twright; I was hoping you would say that and I thought it might be best if they do it, I just needed someone on here to confirm that and you both did so thanks very much. I will also definitely use my affiliate link too!

Fingers crossed, I am a wee bit nervous but we'll see how it goes.

    Thanks again,

    Trish

If you use your hostgator account dont forget to charge them. Earn some nice passive income that way.

If I were you I would do everything under my brand. Because it's your business and effort to help another person to make money, but the work is entirely yours, and you deserve to keep that rights.
Just my opinion, hope it helps

I agree with the advice you've been given. HostGator is the better place to Host put buy and leave the domain at GoDaddy and just point the nameservers to HostGator..

How exciting! You will do great. You can handle the domain registration but I would put it in the client's name - using his/her contact information too. As others have said, you can use your hostgator account for hosting, either bill your client every month or quarter for the hosting.

    Good luck!
