Best camera/video recorder?

I got a clone Flip, hate it, can't do much with it. My old digital camera does videos too, totally lame. Was told strict camcorders takes lousy pictures, what to do now?

One guy at Best Buys really did spend the time with me so now I am leaning towards a Canon, either a PowerShot ELPH 310 HS or ELPH 100 HS. The only difference is the zoom. First one is $199, on sale until next Saturday, 8x zoom. Second one is $129, 4x zoom.

Have you tried it? What I like about it is the HD 1080 and the .mov extension.

Thanks, Eva

I like Nikon CoolPix, they take really great quality photos & videos.

Thats what we took with us when we went to the beach. Then of course I got sand in it, and it stopped working.. but yea, if you aren't gonna be around sand, that should definitely do the job.

As for zoom, sometimes a higher zoom means less quality. It becomes more 'pixelated' if that makes sense.

Really the best way to decide which one would be right for you, is to play with them for yourself at Best Buy. They have them all powered up & on display. So do that, instead of letting an employee try and give you the specs.

They are just trying to sell you something. They dont really care if it works for what you need. They just want their commissions.

When I bought my new laptop, I had some "Geek Squad" person keep harassing me, asking what I was gonna be using it for, what kind of work I do, etc.

So I told him "internet marketing" and his jaw dropped. He had no idea what I was talking about. So how can they tell me what I need when they dont even know what I'm using it for?

I'm going to combine it with ProShow Gold, best software in its price range. I looked at Kodak but their "red" is way red. I'm also looking at price, why over-kill when all I want is to do Youtube stuff? Still want it to look good though and professional,

Hmm.. well if I remember correctly, .MOV needs to be converted to a different format before you can upload it to youtube.

They MIGHT have changed this feature, I dont know. I havent uploaded one to there in awhile.

But a year or so ago, you couldnt upload .MOV files. So you may want to double-check, otherwise you'll be spending a lot of time converting.

I use Kodak Zi8. HD quality and ability to connect audio in for crisp sound recording.
