College kids going Door-To-Door selling websites

Hello fellows,

I've got myself a couple of people who are going to go out and visit businesses to sell on a commission basis. There's a lot of competent people on this forum so I'm just looking for some input, ideas or techniques.

What I'm thinking right now is basically just going out talking to businesses offering demo websites. As an offer I was thinking about giving some extra value by including a professional facebook fan page since we can't afford to give any big discounts.

Of course they will have some flyers/brochure with info about my company, examples of previous work etc. What do you guys think? any tips?

  • Sounds like a solid plan.

On a side note (and the real reason I'm writing) is I tried to opt in to your lists in your signature and I was told your lists aren't active.

    • Great idea! People respond well to college kids when it comes to social media etc.

I would recommend this however. There are going to be business that already have websites. When this happens I'd give your guys a plan to sell the professional facebook fan page instead of give it away.

So I'd give it as extra value when they can't sell the website but if they have a website sell the facebook page.

  • Sounds to me Carl like your on to a winner as long as the sales team don't get greedy and decide to do it themselves and cut you out
  • For the businesses having their websites live and up already you can offer them mobile version of their sites also in addition to the FB fans page.
  • Carl, I thought about doing this same strategy or at least get a few interns, because if you are a registered business you can apply with a college to get an intern. I live right by a decent size college, so it would probably be easy to snag a few.
  • what are you going to do about those who try
to compete with you and do this themselves
  • That's easy to get around with a non-compete clause in the contract I would assume... mobile websites, yes... that was already on my mind. I think I will just get the ball rolling and have them go out asap and as we move along we can expand, tweak and improve.
  • What % would you pay them?

    • As of right now we have a base commission of about 25%.
