New client and need some help

Hey fellow warriors. I just got a new client that I really don't have much experience in. They had a website with yellow pages that they are paying out the butt for and it is terrible. THey want me to help them network and establish a online presense for their business.

They are an adoption law firm that specializes in all sorts of adoptions. They have been in business for 25 years and normally average around 25 adoptions a year. All of a sudden they are not getting any calls and may be on the verge of shutting their doors. Creating them a website is easy but what other methods do you all recommend I could use to get them out there more. They dont have a big budget so it will be something that I will have to tread softly on when it comes to cost... Any ideas???

I would set them up for social media. Target people who would be interested in adoption law firms.

    You can:
    - Upload targeted videos on YouTube
    - Do local and organic SEO
    - Set them up a Twitter & FaceBook

Great ideas from P1, I was going to suggest social media as well.

I just looked and there are adoption forums you can become active
    in. Here's one: forums.adoption.com

Just type this query into facebook and you can find them:
    "adoption"+ forums

Good luck and I hope this helps

Find out what their biggest competitors are doing. Take their ideas and do it better.

Do something in the community to remind people they are still out there. Partner with some kind of charity to drum up some publicity. Don't forget of the offline tactics that still work.

Or once the site is complete maybe run a PPC campaign and see if you can get any leads that way.

    Good Luck,

    Sean

How on earth did you get a new client without either of you understanding or agreeing upon what you would be doing for them?

    I'm flabbergasted.

George, I've seen you on here before and I'm surprised. What kind of discussions did you have with them?

Have you started with the basics such as Yelp, Google Places, Yahoo Locals?
Some ideas to get them exposure.

I would put up google adwords to test if they are getting any traffic on the keywords they should be optimized for. If there is traffic there then take up an online marketing campaign.

If there is few to zero online traffic then you need to create a buzz somehow, either virally through social media or get on the news, the piece being in relation to an adoption business whose about to close its doors because they can find homes for kids without any parents (or anything else thats relevant).

When you do the piece be sure you have your website and your interactive functionality ready (id recommend facebook comments on one of your websites pages) and to mention the url when they do it.

If the piece is compelling enough it will get on the news
