How To Find Your Best Client?

I have been on this Forum for several years now and especially on the Offline Marketing section. I have repeatedly see members post about "How to find clients?" using direct mail, going to chamber of commerce, cold calling and buying mailing lists. Other than the Chamber, I have never done any of those things.....

Enough rambling...here is How To Find Your Best Client?

It's YOU....

You must treat yourself as your best client. You need to get your Internet Marketing business to come up on first page of Google for your search terms, SEO, rank first page on your Google Map/Places, dominate Social Media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Youtube), blogging, article and video marketing to name a few strategies.

Here is what happens if you truly treat yourself like your best client.

1. People find you that are searching for Internet Marketing/Social Media/SEO Services (no more cold calling, direct mail, meetings)
2. The people that find you are more qualified clients, less trying to convince them they need your services.
3. This is perfect for newbies because they can show a potential client how well they rank on Google and how dominate with SEO and Social Media. They will want to be like you. Remember Michael Jordan....Be Like Mike!!!
4. Doing this at a high level will brand you as a leader in your industry. People follow the leader.
5. Lastly...it will become your online resume. All I do is include a link to my LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter Profile to potential clients. It's pretty much a done deal after that.
Businesses want to work with experts in their industry...if you don't look like one, you will have to work harder to get clients and your close rate will be minimal.

I hope this helps those of you trying to find new clients...if you can't do this for yourself at an expert level, why would anybody want to hire you??

James, that is some very sound and although obvious advice, most would not think about it that way. HOWEVER, what if I am not in the "internet marketing" Business?

Don't take me wrong, why would you be in this Forum if you weren't in the Internet Marketing Business?

If you are a business owner looking to find their best client, then perform Google search in your area and look for the best Internet Marketer in your area.

Simply because many don't provide those services to offline clients anyway James.

Just like Google uses direct mail to bring in advertisers.

Just like guys on this forum are getting 40% of the direct mail they send out get respondents phone back and convert 70% plus to clients within days not months. Selling Google Places.

Do you want me to go on?

James, this subject has been thrashed out before here and it only leads to unpleasant results.

    Best,
    Ewen

IMO....Selling Google Places is peanuts....much bigger fish to fry in other areas. I have actually never seen this "hashed out" before, I think this could be open to a healthy debate.

I just can't see anything wrong with EVERY Offline Business Consultant branding themselves as a local industry leader.

        Nothing wrong with it James.

Obviously you are very happy and would like others to be too.

For those who want a faster, more measurable way to profit, then
it's very instructive that Google uses direct mail to get advertisers,
rather than wait for prospects to find them.

They have access to the most number of web pages on the web, the money to
market their business, but no, they want to get their message/offer in front of real decision makers.

        Best,
        Ewen

P.S. Here's a case study that's come thru in the last few days, not doing what you suggest...

Agree that the branding is important and makes good reference AFTER you have found a prospect and want to establish some proof.

But im telling you by and far these small biz owners ARE NOT generally looking to do anything on their own, they need to be prompted.

Here in San Diego, I am seeing more business owners taking Internet Marketing more seriously. I have several clients that I go meet with their marketing departments and train their staff on Social Media , SEO and Lead Gen.

I landed my first 3 SEO clients, without a website. I direct mailed, they called me, I closed. Not once have they ever asked to see my website, or even care if it exist.

Not having a website ranked was something that bothered me, then I just did it.

Of course, now I have a website etc. But I think if you spend to much time trying to put things "into place" you will never take action on getting clients.

Now that I have income and clients, I can slowly work on other things, the branding in the industry, etc.

Everyone just needs to find what works for them and their comfort level. "If it ain't broke don't fix it".

James' advice is to "do what you do."

Guess what? I make a lot of calls.

I also do copywriting...and my sites bring me a steady stream of work and income.

Whatever you've got to work with as expertise, that's what you can start out with when it comes to gathering leads and turning them into prospects. Doesn't have to be Web-based stuff.

I love when people post "what should I do if I don't have a website or business?" how much easier is it to tell the potential client to Google (keyword+city) and see your business site #1. Then tell them that you can do that for them too.!

      Sbishop,

I would suggest ranking on some longer tail keywords for SEO in your area. You could then show your clients your first page placement on Google, something you can also do for them.

Excellent advice, we are trying to work on this. It's a lost cause to try to rank in our area for SEO services - that would be a full time job... But for other services we are trying to make it a priority.

I also feel that as you get better with meeting with people it becomes so much easier to sign people up - to me it's not selling, it's just talking about their needs and how we can meet those needs. Also as you get more happy clients and you know what you are doing, prospects can feel that confidence, knowledge etc and have more trust in you.

there are many clients out there for every businessman it will just need you to have courage, and patience.
If you have a client or have clients take good care of them, value their worth for they can refer to their friends and business partners, then thats another client and another possible paying customer

My biggest Local Clients have ironically come from me using Linkedin and connecting with them online. This is really where the big boys spend their time in my opinion.
