Letter Gets 40% Of Business Owners To Phone Back And 100% Of Those Buy

I always like showing case studies because
they have more value than opinions.

Opinions are a dime a dozen and mostly free here.

For this one, the letter is modelled on Ari Garper's
telephone sales principles.

Ari got hold of it from his client
and de-constructs it with another person.

The transcript of it is here...

http://www.unlockthegame.com/DocumentFiles/164.pdf

Enjoy!
Ewen

P.S. Thanks to Ron, he's dug up the actual letter
as well as Ari's notes on it, plus the audio commentary.
So scroll down and thank Ron please.

      Thanks Patrick!

There is a lesson here in that people prefer examples of what's working
      over how to do it.

Here's an example [again] of a marketer testing this theory to his list.

He split test his email message with a "how to"
      subject and a "example" subject.

The "example" subject got 58% more open rate and 51% more click thru.

So I'm giving what people want the most.

      Best,
      Ewen

      You're welcome!

Although it wasn't Ari's letter, it was a client's of his

Thank you for posting this and many of your other posts. I think some people don't realize that offline marketing in actually just sales. To have an effective sales letter written for you can cost $1000s, and to get good sales training can cost $1000s, to get an effective phone script can cost $1000s; yet people like you, John Durham, kaniganj, Russ Sells, David Miller and many others post these golden nuggets for free.

    I am very appreciative!

I watched Ari live Saturday in a Dan Kennedy webinar, Renegade Millionaire. He was in Australia where he lives. He's doing very well, now works only with Local businesses which really surprised me.

He follows the DK system to a tee.

Yeah I caught that live broadcast of him. Interesting that he
doesn't use cold calling to sell cold calling.

And the social media guy uses and teaches old school

I recorded the entire day, 7 hours on video.

Don Crowther--Founder "Social Profit Formula" <<< That's the Social Media guy you spoke of. I was really floored by what he said about FB vs Twitter. I used to think soc media was a waste of time, but he completely turned me around.

Ari is still selling his material to a world-wide audience via the Internet.

Just has started to do more lucrative big consulting deals locally.
They have to come to his office which is just a few minutes walk from his home.
You have to fill in a application form, which I have, and his hourly fee is $1,000.

He's in a DK program along with Perry Marshall and Craig Garber.

It was just a live broadcast of guests who have used Dan Kennedy stuff
as a lead into the major product launch which closes/closed at midnight Sunday.

Dave Dee the new head of marketing at Glazer Kennedy hosted the show and naturally pumped them for results, successes and their recommendation on buying the training program.

You notice that even the first sentence, he doesn’t say,
“Send us all your money.” He says, “You start with small
orders and outsource them. Small orders first, why? So we
can prove our trust of your business.” And…to make sure
    Ari:
…we are a good fit together. There you go, the same
language again. He’s saying, “Look, give us a try on a

    small scale.”

That's great. A more reservede call to action, focused more on bulding trust than anything else. I like how the whole letter flows together. Great swipe file. I'm going to listen to the recording now, with the letter in my hand.

Once again, thanks Ewen for the share. And Ron for the letter.

I was just getting ready to do a small mailing some time this week (implementing BobRoss's wso..the saturation mailings/premium one) and this will help me a lot. I was going for a more *non sales* approach, but was thinking my letter was too long. This cleared up some things for me considering the fact that his letter is way longer than mine (lol) and still gets a good response.

I think following the guidelines of this letter along with the envelope strategy that Bob Ross suggests in his rapid response wso will probably yield the same conversions..or close to it.

This letter is worth money. Thanks for this!

ewen--truly, a great and valuable read. I am only reaching out to prospects now and never having done mailers etc., I don't know if I'm doing things right or wrong. Reading this pdf, I liked how the letter was broken down. Plus--I like the idea of not being a pushy salesman and building an honest relationship.

Of course, now I want to read that letter. Based on what I have read, I will try to construct a new mailer that has the major components the pdf talks about [diffusing pressure being the main one!] and see what I can come up with. But if you have any examples of such a letter, that'd be freakin' awesome to look at for reference.

I can't thank you enough. Anyone starting off with their own business, give this a good read and see if it speaks to you.

Nice share guys! Definitely has some good tips! Selling without sounding like you're selling is the best approach. Back when PC's first started being sold at the retail level I used to sell them, and the way I approached my customers was to ask them how they planned to use the computer..for example work, gaming, etc as this would help me steer them in the direction of the right computer to meet their needs, while many of the other salesman would simply jump in trying to sell them on the computer with the most bells and whistles regardless of their needs. Guess who sold the most

If you'd be so kind as to share the letter or send me a PM with a link, it'll be very much appreciated.

Wouldn't hurt to have that in our swipe file to get inspiration from.

          Thanks in Advance.

I would love to share them here, but need to check with the mods here if it's OK.

I had this up last week on my office computer, and had just been on the Unlock the Game site, and came here, and it was up. Miracle!

Currently, I am "touching" the cellular phone, pallet, and cardboard brokering industries. Of specific interest to me now in my cellular phone industry. I HAVE to save my company.

I wonder if a letter like this could help.........I have a pretty extensive mail list that was just given to me.

I am checking to see how I can modify this for trying to sell cellular phones.

The readers it was sent to obviously didn't think so because 40% of them phoned and 100%
      of those bought!

I've used 8-10 page sales letters. My longest was 20. Make them interesting and persuasive and it doesn't matter how long they are. Of course testing is the only way to really know: long vs. short, different offers, prices points, etc.

    Great share.

I had a friend let me borrow Unlocking The Game over the weekend, and I am making cold-calls today.

I love what Ari teaches because it's so dead simple and even though I'm only 1 call deep for today, I already know that rejection in the traditional sense is not going to happen to me a whole lot.

      Well done!

Most people don't realize that a in person sales script can be used in print and multiplied.

Did you know that "borrowing" / "lending" copyrighted digital information is illegal and considered a criminal offence?

If it wasn't, I would lend tons of things to people wanting to "borrow" it!

But, hey, I just follow the law-abiding rules -- digital or not!

Could it be this was all "guinea pig" marketing at it's finest?

      The Sales Guy,

      WOW!

That was a crude and presumptuous statement that you just made, especially since you just joined here -- April 2012!

For your information, the letter was REAL!

However, with the assumption that you've just made, I REALLY, REALLY DON'T want to post it --- especially for YOUR benefit!

I can't believe that you could also make another statement without having all the facts --- meaning, look up Ari, and you will know who HE IS!

Keeping the rest of my mouth shut (don't want to get banned)!

JMB, I am a longtime lurker here on the WF, but, as you were so kind to point out, officially joined not too long ago.

Apparently - according to your theory - one cannot express his or her thoughts or opinions if fairly new on here. Hmmmmmm, I myself don't remember reading anything pertaining to that in the WF rules thread. Maybe you can share it with me if you come across it. Bottom line is...

I don't care if I just became a member of this site 15 minutes ago, I have the EXACT same right as anyone else to speak my mind!

Secondly, I NEVER said the letter wasn't real. I challenge you to find where I mentioned that ANYWHERE in my post. DO NOT put words in my mouth, honey-buns!! Rather, what I did suggest, was that maybe the letter idea was subtlety referenced as a way to drive traffic to this sales trainers website. "Guinea Pig" marketing was the actual quote I used in my post, if you'd really like to split hairs...and even this was said a bit tongue in cheek. Here's the reality, JMB...

The OP originally wrote about this letter on the 11th. As of late yesterday evening - the 17th - there was still no letter produced, even though COUNTLESS individuals asked for it numerous times (including myself). So, I feel QUITE justified in expressing the thoughts I did in my post.

Finally, aside from the sales trainer himself, I NEVER referenced any one particular person by name, insulted anyone, berated anyone, etc. Matter of fact, I am quite the fan of the OP's knowledge, and have even publicly thanked him for sharing his experience with this forum.

        It's this simple...

If something is mentioned for all to see in a post, and it isn't available, I believe the post is meaningless and should be deleted.

JMB, if in someway you are in bed with Mr. Galper and any of his related businesses, you should simply fess-up, instead of attacking someone like myself for only pointing out what a lot of other people were thinking

        Yours Truly,
        Mr. Romance

            • what do the stats say.
does the letter get a fair response rate or not is the question

providing a link is not illegal. IMO

Ari is like all others. promotion 1st.

It does provide a way to cold call (and sales letters) with a change in the mind (attitude).

If you have been in sales and faced rejection you know the adage
"buyers are liars", so Ari's traumatic sales experience was just leveraged to create a story, that people can buy into, get inspired enough to take some action, with which Ari can make money from.

I do give him credit, for last year I was told he did a seminar and got on the phone live making cold calls.

he should be here, and I have referenced him several times on this forum.

could he give us marketing specifics on the long sales letter? that would be nice.

By the way I agree with what you say but just to point out the original post is 11th March.

And this is not for you but that foxy person is an idiot.

I don't know, but why are you getting on my case about it when I'm not the only one who is posting links about this. Just because I found a link that actually works doesn't make me the bad guy or an idiot as you would say. I want to help people and since this was already being discussed and links already being shared I figured I would help those who were looking for it. Your fight isn't with me, it's with Google for making this public and if it's wasn't for free then the person who owns that site should really look into protecting their paid content more.

Luvfoxy, I am by no means an expert when it comes to copyright law (nor do I claim to be), however, if you did indeed find this openly available on Google, and posted it here on the forum, methinks you have nothing to concern yourself with.

I am a War Room member.

Presumably this pdf is part of a paid membership.

So in a way this is theft what you are doing.

You may not see it like that but it is.

I believe there are sites that freely steal and share others content including stuff form the War Room.

Why turn this forum into one just as base?

            Dan

By the way I have absolutely no idea who this Ari person is nor do I care.
Jimbo, all's I am doing is reading a sales letter that was OPENLY posted as to being free and available for consumption, on this forum. If it WASN'T intended to be read, I'm sure this entire thread would've been deleted by now.

All that being said, I agree with your comments (with the exception of the Foxy, part) as well Long and short of it is, though...

We now have access to this material. Hopefully, this will stop the bickering.

Yes I know it is now out there and like I say not really anything to do with me.

I don't think anyone should just be putting other peoples things out and about without permission.

So that is why I presume the owner of unlockthegame pulled it as it makes a mockery of his business just like some sites make a mockery of WSO and War Room by freely making them available.

You can google John Durhams telemarking report and you will see what I mean.

It is just a bee in my bonnet that is all.

Well it wont be posted again because it is not anyone on this forums letter to post.

        Quite simple concept really.

It was in the public domain I presume as the early posts all mention that they have seen it.

So perhaps this Ari person had it on his homepage as a case link at the time as it was one of his students letters and then removed it which would not be unusual thing to do.

Ari gets alot of fanboy props around here... Im thinking he's already a Warrior. He should be (just out of gratitude) contributing here himself. IMO

Or at least giving us a nod...

Dont know him, have heard alot of good "standard" advice quoted by others from him though... The guy doesnt move me either way. I have seen good trainers, excellent trainers and average ones...

No hate intended because Ive never once made a comment about the man before either way I dont think... but he seems kinda boring and average as a trainer to me from what I've picked up.

One of his biggest fans ripped material straight off my site and posted it on theirs written in the first person ... So I wouldnt put it past people from his group to do things like that but thats a generalization so take it with a grain of salt...

Also, one of his biggest promotors was "Evie" who was busted as being Tony Seruga by some of my forum members last year and Warrior Benn from the WF...

I dont think that makes him dishonest by association by any means... but two of the people I hear promoting him heavier than anyone else have been busted lying and scamming and having multiple identities...

They seem to have a vested interest with the style of promoting him that they tend to display alot of them, but I guess the same could be said of myself sometimes when people go on about the teachings publicly, so...

I dont want to point fingers and again, I have never said a suspicious word about the man, my opinion on the subject and 50 cents might buy you a walmart coke, BUT this has been my experience with his fan club... I get people coming to the TMF all the time trying to discredit our theories by quoting his... Im like "Why arent you on his site instead of mine then"?

It all smells of fanboys, promotion and sabotage to me.

Either way I dont care...Just sayin.

        "I" remember you!

Seriously though, Bob has thousands of customers and gets tons of emails everyday... there are so many usernames and email addresses... Its easy not to remember who you talked to sometimes in his position, even if the conversation is somewhat deep, especially if has been a long time and many conversations in between, its not humanly possible to remember everyone's name or conversation when you have that many people working with you... Honestly.

I got love for you JMB, so Im just sayin, but honestly we are just talking reality... There is a good chance that I owe you an email from last year too... There are just alot of pms that fly back and forth over the course of a year here, and its not unbelievable that he didnt remember... if in fact thats the case.

I cant expect a professional to stop on a dime for free and email with me for two hours per day, even though they might love to. Its more considerate to let them do it on the forum where everyone can benefit from the answers and where they can answer everyone at once instead of answering the same basic questions a hundred times per day and being locked down to their email box....

Ps I have made a certain un named Warrior here tens of thousands of dollars, and he has NEVER returned an email inquiry for me even ONCE...(some know who...I know Bob does for sure)

Now THAT I dont appreciate. If I made you money you should email me back. I dont forget to email guys who make me that much money

Ca$hvertising is an excellent, excellent book!

While the principles contained within aren't new (what is?), the author puts a refreshing, updated spin on the material. The chapters on applying the tried~and~true, classic methods of sales techniques & copywriting for the internet age are worth the price of the book itself.

Admittedly, the underlying principles contained in the book go back to the great's (Hopkins, Sugarman, Cialdini, etc.), however, it, also explains the psychological reasons of WHY things work versus "just do A, B & C", which is infinitely more rewarding, IMO.

Pick up a used copy and give it a try

Its funny how every single time a person I respect recommends a book on here, I immediately go and read it.

This book is incredible. I've been in marketing for 4 full months and have already 7 of the most fundamental marketing books I can read. The first one I read was "4 Hour Work Week", thats what got me into marketing. Its funny how now, I DO NOT consider that first book "fundamental" by any means.

Claude Hopkins, Dan Kennedy, Gary Halbert, Perry Marshall, John Caples, (can't remember the other ones) its THESE guys who seem like they really know their stuff. Not Timothy Freakn Ferris. He's a smart guy, but not what I need to be reading. Now I have Eric Whitman to add to the list so thank you, its immediately becoming my favorite & very well written book.

        -Red

ps. This book is the BEST. The whole "stop reading here" technique, I love it. The ps technique haha. This is the type of information I genuinely enjoy, great way to spend my saturday night. I might be a loser but I'm gonna be a super wealthy loser one of these days.

And unlike other books on business written by University scholars that sound good but don't
work in the real world, I know one of the chapters does.

It's been tested by Gary Bencivenga, who has the highest hit ratio
of direct response copywriters for the biggest mailers in the world.

Just by adding ONE word to your pitch makes all the difference,
            as the photocopy story shows.

I agree, Ca$hvertising is a great book. I have had mine for years and it is well thumbed.

Guys , not to run it into the ground but... Ari probably DOES want you to share that PDF. I could barely find a single sentence in ANY of his quotes (in the first half) that didnt say the words "my program".

    Ever heard of subtlety?

I dont mind being sold, but if you let me know that you are just selling me something right in the first paragraph , but you arent 'saying it outright"... You dont gain my loyalty and admiration, before you try to close me...?

ABC I guess, but thats not a very conspicuous attempt at being covert, and totally misses the mark of being up front... so its somewhere in the middle which to me equals "Im trying to sell you through giving authoritative information, but Im too obvious, so you probably dont want to do what Im doing, because you will be too".

Frankly, while I appreciate the share, I'm unimpressed with the letter. I wonder if the claimed 40% response is another one of those where the sample size was too small to be significant.
