Food for thought - hiring vs DIY

After reading & responding to a few posts, I might stick to my original plan to hire a student to design the web pages.

Here's my plan.

My business plan is to help local businesses get more exposure on the Internet.
I am baffled by the number of them who don't have a website or a Facebook page. I was wondering how I could make it an affordable tool for them, maybe even have a single page website would be enough! But how...

And then I came back to this forum and found the answer!
I will be buying domains for the multiple towns/cities in my surroundings and offer them a package.

Example: newyorkrestaurantsDOTcom

I would then approach all restaurants in that city to "rent a page".
They will have the opportunity to list their specials, post their restaurant & take-out menus as well. Also, a FB page would also be created in combination to this.

I'm getting to the point of my title here....thought I would share what I am doing.

I am pretty good with FB so I wouldn't mind taking care of that part.
But I believe my time & energy would be best spent in taking care of my clients, creating more leads, and helping them grow their business by keeping an eye out on their progress.

For me, outsourcing the web development seems to be a no-brainer. I have so much to learn... By contracting a student, I would pay a reasonable price per page and I would free myself to grow the business.

Anyone else with similar thoughts or experience?

It doesnt even have to be a student. There are people out there that may be faster, more reliable and even cheaper to fulfill your orders. It is certainly a good business model and you are learning the most important lesson of success, delegation.

What part of ON are u from btw?

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

I have a good working solution for web design, and this might work for you as well. I have a graphic designer who I pay a certain percentage of each job. Once the client accepts the graphics work, I have another guy that turns that PSD into a wordpress theme.

I install Wordpress on the client's site and pop in the theme from my web guy. I then train the client on adding content and do any tweaking that needs to be done with the design.

It's minimal work on my part and saves me a TON of time with web development. Also, this way my clients get a completely custom design, which is better than I could do on my own. It's a win for everyone.

Why not screencast it, do a FAQ page and schedule a training only after they've done a trial and only if needed?
