Let's say you have a blog called SanDiegoCosmeticSurgery.com.

You then add the contact information of a cosmetic surgeon on the site without his or her consent. The surgeon then starts getting calls/emails from the blog, from potential clients.

Is this legal? Would there have to be some sort of disclaimer that the site?

You can then have an easy sell to the plastic surgeon because you've already provided them something of value.

  • if the information is readily available on the web, then imo you should not be worrying about legal and all that.......

again this is my opinion, it is not a major concern....

  • But how is the cosmetic surgeon going to know the calls he's getting are a result of the link to his site on your page?

    • You could set up a trackable link.

You could have them call a special number only listed on the blog.

You could have them quote a coupon code. (4A, or say Jason told you to call).

      There are many ideas.

  • There many examples of this type of referral that occurs in the world of print media. What the white page listings? You and your business are listed there whether you pay for it or not. Obviously if you pay you will get a larger ad, but you will be in the white pages regardless of if you pay! Is the publisher of a Doctor or surgeon directory libel for the work of anyone listed in it?
  • Honestly your overthinking it. However I would recommend getting a tracking number so that you can keep track of the calls you sent over.

    • It's certainly not ILLEGAL! I do things like that on a fairly regular basis. It's never been an issue. Hard to imagine that anyone would have a problem with free advertising.

But, if they should, it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission.
