CASE STUDY: Need Some Real Input For Local SEO, Frustrated!

I am filling this post with so much crap in my frustration, I have to keep rewriting it...

I will try to explain EXACTLY what I want to accomplish and if any Local SEO'rs could tell me where/how I am going wrong, I will be EXTREMELY grateful...

MY OBJECTIVE : Rank Hairdressers Geelong | Market your hairdressing in Geelong at spot #1 for the keyword 'hairdressers geelong' (my local city).

COMPETITION FOR KEYWORD 'HAIRDRESSERS GEELONG':
http://i40.tinypic.com/j5bf6b.jpg

CURRENT STATISTICS :
Majestic SEO statistics
Site Explorer Results - Summary - Majestic SEO
- Onpage is pretty good
- Exact match domain

CURRENT RANKING :
Page 5

Since putting this domain up about a month ago, it started nowhere, then about a week ago it jumped to page 1 for a few days and now has dropped back to page 5.

What frustrates me is that I *HEARD* that extremely low competetition meant that you virtually didn't even have to backlink. This doesn't appear to be the truth as a FORUM POST is ranked #2 for this keyword.

Please, could anyone provide a SOLID ANALYSIS of this situation? I am sure it would be relevant to other people looking to learn offline SEO.

Thanks so much if you do...

Just give it a time bro. It's only been a month. You have the exact domain and the competition is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too low for you to be frustrated.

I put my money on that it'll hit front page within a month without you doing anything else.

But if I were you I would work on the on-site a lil more and build some back links.

Thanks Chris, but that's the thing...I have read about MULTIPLE people saying that can rank easy keywords literally 24-48 hours or more...Describing VERY similar stats to my screenshots...But it's just not happening...

I have a hunch it's because I am not using wordpress blogs and using a specific software to make my website. Maybe cos I don't have my site pumped up with SEO plug ins the onpage is suffering??

the google dance usually takes one to 3 months, regardless of what you do.

yes you can get to page 1 in just a few hrs ( sometimes ) but it wont stay there. IT WILL BOUNCE AROUND.

any one who says diff, is full of it. so just whoo saahh.
give it some time and see what happens.

its hard to wait , when you don't know whats happening, its hard to know what steps to make, when you don't know what google is going to do.
but it is part of the SEO game.

If you or your client are in a hurry you could always rank a youtube video which will be faster and might stick if you do it right.

Listen to TyErickson on this one. Google LOVES YouTube and Google+. If you want to rank very fast, use these websites and you will get there. Beside that you're definitely going to have to be patient. Back in the day you could have gotten the results in the time frame you are looking at, but nowadays Google is making it more difficult.

Keep pumping out good original content from the site and you should have no problem getting these results.

In SEO there's no true analysis about how you could rank your sites.. Yes Low competition will help your site easily but it also needs backlink to help the site stay on top page.

I did something similar to this, with a more competitive niche: chiro's

I bought an emd for a long tail keyword, it ranked rather fast. Then I had 3 blog post for the keywords with volume "city + chiropractor" and "chiropractor city" and "chiropractor in city"

The latter of the keywords, with good on-page, took about 45-60 days to rank, and I have been wedged in the top 3 ever since.

I did some social media submission.

I sent some blog blue print links.

I made a linkwheel and blue farted the links to my link wheel.

Sat back, forgot about the site (well checked daily for 2 weeks with little or no movement), checked after 45 days or so, #2, checked just now #2 for some keywords, #3 for others. This was back in November.

    Where's the internal linking structure?

Get that in order, it will help. Also, build some additional content pages and interlink these, using appropriate anchors.

Like has been mentioned, Google can be slow. I like to watch yahoo and bing, they move faster sometimes, so you can get an idea if what you are doing is working.

It will be just a matter of time before your site improves its ranking. Just need to be a bit patient.

    It's a one page site.
There is more to ranking than emd, and heading tags.

Your problem is..... You didn't do a whole lot at all.
Everyone says it's not difficult..... And it isn't when compared to some other niches.

You need more content on there.
A one page website with a bunch of prices on there isn't gonna cut it.

    Then build backlinks.

    Simple.

    Hairdressers Geelong

Social Media Icons not activated. Need to set those up and share several times on Facebook, LinkedIn. Add G+ and link as well.
    Some graphics missing alt tags.
The ones that have alt tags all have the exact same alt tag and title description. Mix it up a little.
Create a video (20-30 second slide show set to music) and optimize it fully on YouTube.
Embed the video on your site.
As you hover over your current content, there doesn’t seem to be any links either out or internal.
Add authority links and/or internal links in H1, H2 and text.
More content is needed. Only one page is going to take longer to climb in the rankings if ever.
Although you don’t have a client yet, you need a company name, address and phone number in the footer of the site.
You’re probably right on target in your thoughts on Wordpress vs some special software as you mentioned above.

With all of that said, would be remiss not to say this…

Making contact with all of the actual hairdresser owners and sharing a little about yourself and your services in person is more likely to get you a client faster.

Waiting on one of them to stumble onto this site may take longer than you’d like to begin creating revenue. Even if they do find it, many of them might glance at it and assume it’s just another hairdresser site as opposed to a template that’s ranking, where you allow them to plug in their business particulars.

Either way, best of luck with your project. Greg

Google is starting to grade sites on content and your content is virtually non existent.

All the SEO crap you hear can rank a site for yellow dogs but when it comes to real world situations I have found them less than satisfactory.

By adding a constant stream of content with targeted keyphrases around your clients business products and services using good on page tactics you will find their site on page one much quicker.

Believe me as we do this every day for our clients.

No.. Wordpress is garbage in my opinion, but may be better than what you're using, who knows? The SEO benefit isn't given to wordpress, the WP cheerleaders just claim that google loves it when in fact, google loves fresh content, and lots of it.

People that go on about 24-48 hour rankings are full of you know what. Sometimes google won't crawl your site within 24-48 hours, let alone refresh the index pulled from certain data centers.

A forum post is likely to have other people linking to it. Search killer guide to SEO. That was a WSO of mine a while ago and it ranks number one.

SEO can take some time.. nothing is immediate. What you do today might have results a month from now.

A few issues that I see are:

Your linking structure is slightly messed up. You have 3 home pages (Google hates that):
Also, and more importantly, Google's goal is to provide searchers with relevant results. If you are targeting 'hairdressers geelong', Google doesn't want to display a site that is selling ad space to hairdressers, they want to show actual hairdressers.

How can they tell? Well the whole bottom of your page tells that story, and the title tag.

If I was looking for a hairdresser, your site is not what I am looking for. If I was a hairdresser and want to market my business, then your site should show up.
