Lots of sites have been hit by this recently. One guy had a site earning $3500 every month which lost all its rankings and that went to zero in a blink of an eye. Crazy. Reason? He got a notice from google saying "unnatural links detected."

What's the solution to these new changes in terms of how we do SEO?

Just a different tweak to destroy SEO business. What else is new?

This will be a big advantage for offliners as less work will get better results.

And it is a win for those of us searching who get tried of certain niches being filled with results that suck but have quality SEO.

I don't believe we will ever get to the point where someone can't game the system but it gets harder and harder.

Why exactly would Google set out on a mission to 'level the playing field' between people who SEO'd their sites and those who didn't get off their asses to do the same.

Be that true, then every marketer is bound to produce tons of "unnatural" links leading straight to a competitor site.
And I do not really believe that's real...too simple to be truth, I'm afraid.

Google makes over 200 changes to their search engine a year, this is nothing new. It's been known for years now that Google penalizes for keyword stuffing and over-optimization of anchor text.

I think the part that might be a little troubling for most people is the way Google plans to parse out information from its own database rather than relying on search engine results. That could mean search engine results are bumped even further down the page.

It's the same thing they have been preaching, just re-worded.

What exactly would Google consider an over SEOed website? Too much head tags? Fix or formulated keyword density? Super fast websites? Optimized images? Perfect ratio of keyword as anchor texts vs URL anchor texts vs click here / generic anchor texts?

This announcement doesn't really say much. And like what others say, there's really nothing new to it.
