Find prospects eager to pay - 5 steps!

Hey warriors,

I got few questions recently on how to go about targeting clients that are not just advertising in yellow pages but are aware of the power of internet. Well not exactly like that , but basically everyone just wants a simple system or blueprint to follow that is proven to get results.

So what is my favourite method?

I find prospects that are already spending money on online advertising.

I know to most of you this might not be exactly a big news, but I just thought I'd share this.

This process is pretty simple (not easy - requires work) and effective.

Here it is:

STEP 1

Pick a niche and search on google, business niche + city or city + business niche.

Here are some good business niches to start off with:

Boiler Repair
Carpenter
Carpet Cleaning
Catering
Children's Birthday Party Services
Child Care
Cleaning Services
Computer Repair
Drain Cleaning
Electrician
Events Planner
Fencing
Fireplaces
Florists
Flooring Companies - Laminate, hardwood, carpet
Funeral Services
Hair Salon
Home Security
Insurance Broker
Interior Designer
Laptop Repair
Lawncare/Landscaping/Gardening
Limo Hire
Makeup Artist
Party and Event Rentals
Personal Trainer
Photographers
Power Tool Rental
Printing Services
Tutors
Vending Machines

...and finally wedding related businesses (big money here)
Wedding Cakes
Wedding Hall
Wedding Photographer
Wedding Planner
Wedding Dresses Hire

STEP 2

Look at all the adwords ads on the page. The best would be to open up a spreadsheet and keep track of the names, URLs, ranking and keyword.

Then we need to check:

1. If they are showing up on google maps
2. If they are ranking organically anywhere on page 1

If they are not, these are the businesses we need to target. They are spending money on adwords but are not on google maps or ranking organically. You can find plenty of them just from the niches above.

STEP 3

Open up the google keyword tool and do a search for the keyword, take a screenshot of the results.
Paste the screenshot in paint and add a note to it, something like this:

Did you know that 2000 (or whatever the search result is) potential clients searched for a business + city in google.com last month?
How much would even a fraction of those customers interested in your business be worth to you?

STEP 4

We will be contacting these businesses offering our google maps/SEO services (can be totally outsourced btw).
First we email them and attach the screenshot from step 3, alternatively we can send them a link to video or to our website etc.

If you are not sure how to do this step, I suggest you check out my signature (email swipes, ppt presentations in there).

Then we can follow up with a phone call.

STEP 5

Once you get a response, give them a quote or set up a meeting. For google places listing I suggest $300-$500 upfront and $100-$300 monthly maintenance depending on niche.

Now rinse and repeat with different niches. Even if you only start with niches I mentioned above, I'm certain you will get some clients.

All The Best,

Martin

First off, great post. This is a tried and true method for pre-qualifying your potential leads. Couple questions:

    1. Do you ever venture into page 2 of adwords?

    2. Of those that you email > call, I'm curious - do you have a rough percentage of those that you call and that remember your email? I ask because right now I'm mainly cold calling, and would be interested if this method would increase your appointments or closes.

      1. Oh yeah I do look into page 2 as well, sometimes even page 3 when competitive. I should have been clearer.

      2. I personally hate cold calling and have never done it, I'm confident that outsourcers are doing better job that I would.
Usually they call or reply to my emails requesting more info, in that case I would follow up with phone call.
What brings the best conversion? Email, then another email with a link to a video and follow up phone call. If you don't get someone interested with this then just move on.

Martin, suppose they were to ask you why they needed to be on the first page? They are already there! Thanks F.A.

    And the truth comes out.

If you just provide good content and feedback to the WF, people will naturally click on your signature link.

BUT , I suppose if you provide good content and tell people to click on your signature link, they will as well.

It does say it's a FREE WSO so can't beat him up for that....just the cost of your email address from what I can see.

Thanks for the great post Martin.

I tend to like targeting tradesmen as they are usually good friends with other tradesmen. This means lots of referrals in the future (if you do a good job), so I highly recommend targeting builders, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, locksmiths, etc. They just always seem to have lots of buddies in the same or similar trades.

Thanks for your comments guys. Yes Ryan you are right, they would probably click the signature anyway. But I know for sure that if I had not included that sentence, I would get more pm's asking for some email swipes... This way I'm just avoiding additional work.

I used this strategy with my cold calling just now. Within 9 calls I got an appointment tomorrow with a personal fitness trainer who's frustrated about not being on the first page of organic searches on Google.

    Thanks!

Martin question for you. You stated in an earlier post that you tend to charge between 300-500 to set up google places, and then 100-300 to maintain it on a monthly basis. What determines whether you charge 100 vs. 300?

      Thanks

It's entirely up to you, just take into consideration the niche and the level of competition. For example I'm going to charge wedding planners way more than lets say carpet cleaners, because there is a lot of money in wedding niche, its really competitive and they are willing to pay more and also depending on the area you're targeting. Hope that helps.
