Need to rank local videos on YouTube? Check out my method!

I have seen many questions recently regarding ranking videos on YouTube, with responses that are conflicting and contradict each other, not giving the OP a clear reference to do this task. By no means do I endorse this method as a guarantee, or 'the best', but I will say that this has worked and continues to work for me. This is targeted towards keywords and niches, in smaller 'local' areas. If there is competition, this will provide a strong base for the additional SEO strategies that you should implement.

Ranking videos IS a simple concept. Don't over think it!

The steps I follow to rank videos are as follows:

1. Make sure the title of your video has your main keyword included, in a non-spam fashion. For example, if your keyword is : Chinese Food Louisville Kentucky; An acceptable title would be: '*Restaurant Name* - Authentic Chinese Food In Louisville Kentucky'.

2. Make sure the video is at least 1 minute and 30 seconds long, and no longer than 3 minutes long. I find that many videos that businesses upload to YouTube, are short and not engaging. You want the viewer to see the video as engaging content, not just some ad that they are going to spend their time on to watch. This may not directly affect ranking, though a viewers response to the video most certainly does. Get the viewer interested so they can comment (and comment back! show them you care!), share via social media, bookmark it for later, or keep the title as a mental note! Make sure the video spends enough time to make a lasting impression, but won't drown out the viewer. CONTENT IS KEY HERE! Don't 'pitch' on a video, unless its meant for lead generation of some sort. People can click back, pause, or another video faster than they can *hang up* a phone. Share interesting, engaging, and relevant content to keep the viewers eyes glued, and their sight stored inside their head!

3. In the description, write a short but powerful message regarding the video. Try to keep it no less than 4 sentences, and no more than 8. (Give or take considering the size of the sentences, and the content you are writing.) Include your main keyword, and include relevant keywords to your business. Remember, unless you are writing for lead-gen, you want your copy to be attractive and engaging. You want attention, not *sales*. (unless that's what you're going for, of course.) Also, Don't forget to include your business information here such as your business name, URL, phone number, address, and even directions! Here's an example using the 'Chinese Food Louisville Kentucky' keyword:

At *Restaurants Name*, we offer authentic Chinese Food in your local town of Louisville, Kentucky. We take pride in our dishes. Using our family's ancient recipes, we serve classic Chinese favorites such as Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, Sesame Chicken, and much more! Don't forget to start off your meal with one of our famous Egg Rolls! We strive to bring great Chinese Food to Louisville. Come by and see our daily specials!

*Restaurant Name*
*Website*
*Phone Number*
*Address*

*Directions from local highway or access road*

4. For your Category, choose the most relevant. As long as your video is not a long shot away, it will work fine. A bad example would be submitting a video on a local restaurant in the 'Gaming' category. Yes, most gamers would love a great restaurant that delivers , but it will not fly so hot in Goog... I mean YouTube's eyes. :p

5. For your tags, include your business name, main keyword, a few derivatives, and a few relevant keywords. Try to keep it no less than 10, and no more than 20 tops. For example:

*Restaurant Name*, Chinese Food Louisville Kentucky, Chinese Food, Louisville, Kentucky, Authentic Chinese Food, Classic Chinese Dishes, Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Egg Rolls, *Phone Number*, *Address*, *Nearest Exit On Closest Hwy*

6. Watch your video blast to the top! Granted, some keywords do have competition! Give it some time for your video to gain some authority, share it via social networks etc. If then your video is still not in sight, you will want to do some additional research and implement some more advanced SEO techniques such as Blog Submissions and Forum Posts. Remember, if you do decide to do that, don't spam! One or two good Video Links on an active self-managed blog located in your city triumphs over spammy submissions. Send them an e-mail, if they're local, they will be interested! Be selective! You are looking for traffic, not just links. A few niche specified forum posts with engaging content and links to your video can be helpful too. Make sure that the forum is active, moderated, and has some authority.

Again, this is not meant for high targeted keywords. But it is a great way to boost 'Local' videos to the top, and set a base for a strong video!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Good luck, and get ranking!

One or two links are not going to get you far even in low en middle competition keywords, you need to do some serious back linking if you want to get video's ranked for restaurant + city... the days that you don't need backlinks or just a view are long gone... i use videos a lot and getting them ranked is getting harder and harder.

If you want to rank get a comment blast from fiverr or with Scrapebox/sick submitter and backlink the hell out of it.

Getting videos ranked in an area for your clients or for yourself is getting harder and I have to agree with YGM on that. I tried to rank one of my videos in my town for a website design keyword but have found that even creating many PR2 backlinks was not enough to rank even in the top 200 on Google.

Still the original quote was good content and you can't knock the fellow warrior for that.

Simply put, if you do what the OP did, just keyword in title, description, tag ...

Hop on over to fiverr, buy reputable gig that serves a senuke blast ..

sit back, and watch your video rank.

It is really that easy, I rank videos all day for local markets.

Not not for bumnowhere, IA... but veterinarian + largecity (about 1 million people) .. it takes me 15 minutes of actual work.

You can: buy a fiver gig (I got one, the guy creates 3 videos) to get your video made. You upload to youtube (the longest part) , do the on-page, buy the fiverr gig for senuke. Check your rankings a few days after the nuke is complete. I usually provide this to my clients as a "free bonus valued at $697", and they eat it up.

You guys are absolutely right, let me make things a little bit clearer as I see I have not been as clear as I meant to be. The method that I stated *will* rank for LOW competition keywords or/in LOW competition cities. Obviously, this BY ITSELF will not rank keywords like "DUI Lawyer New York City', or something to that effect. BUT, it will provide a strong grounding for it.

I do agree, one or two strong links won't just do the trick for ranking a heavy keyword or/in a highly competitive city. Now, one or two STRONG links from actively crawled, authority blogs specified in your city will definitely hold a strong value if it is a small city with not a lot of competition. It's works for me all of the time. BUT, the main point I was trying to make was.... don't spam, and don't use spammy tactics to achieve your goals. As a general rule. Just my recommendation. I will gladly have my video with a fresh review or article on it, written by a local blogger than have 50 PR0, spam links. Don't get me wrong, some submissions that SEnuke submits to are decent, but not in the sense of running a full robotic nuke on it. Pick a couple, do it by hand. Drip them by hand. Give it some human authority.

But MOST IMPORTANTLY- If it works for you, then keep on doing it!

Which is exactly why I made this thread. It works, for me.

I think the best thing about youtube videos is that you can blast the hell out of them with backlinking auto software (as opposed to a website)

The are also other cool methods like having a keyword optimized article in the description and even modifying your transcription script (that's right!) to include your keywords.

One thing I see a lot of it is just music backgrounds with no voice over or script of any sort. This is very important for Video marketing and highly recommend you don't go the "lazy" route and just add some "YouTube music" to some text overlays.

What seems to be the best type of backlinks for youtube videos? I know people use forum, blog, pyramid, senuke blast, etc... What works best (for people who have done this) and what methods have you tried?

In most other methods, you need to be careful so that you don't get in googles sandbox, but with this method, it is unlikely google will sandbox their own site. So I want to take advantage of that and use something that will boost my ranks fast and high... I will be using search terms such as "city dentist" "construction city" "city state remodeling" "teeth whitening city" etc... They are medium-high competition and the city populations vary from 35,000-105,000. I will start with medium competition and lower population, and go higher as I learn more.

    Thanks for the help

I should let you know that I have had a few videos where I over optimized too quickly and ended up never showing back up in the rankings again. I would recommend not going too fast just becuase it is hosted on youtube. Just like anything else, better safe than sorry.

I have a local client who is a DJ. I'm considering ranking a video he has produced showing clips of an actual gig. Here are the parameters I'm looking at and would like some feedback.

1- "wedding dj city state = High comp < 46 exact < 7 pack places listing < and 2 pack video listing 1st, 2nd, 3rd pages of Google

2- "wedding dj city" = Medium comp < 16 exact searches < no places listing and 1 video listing 1st page Google

3- "city wedding dj" = Medium Comp < 36 exact searches < no places listing and no video listings 1st page Google. Has 1 video listing on 2nd page.

I have tested a lot of stuff the past 3 or 4 months. I mean everything youc an think of. I have videos ranking all over the damn place.

I have videos ranking for niche + city and adjective niche + city , in very large cities (700K plus) -

People always look at the city size and try to gauge how hard it is to rank, while common sense may say it will be harder for larger cities, you have to look at the competition (For a website) and how well optimized things are already. If a small city, has 10 really good people that know SEO, wouldn't it be rather difficult to rank there? Chances are , that is not the case, but I have ran into small cities and looked at the top 7 or so sites and went *damn, they got some people that know their shi* .. so, do your due diligence first.

Google loves putting their own videos up there on the first page, you just have to give them a reason to, you know how you have that friend that just likes to talk about him self.. and if you give him the perfect opening, he will do so and just blab all day? Same thing with youtube videos, give Google a reason to talk about them selves.

I already said above exactly what should be done, don't over think it.

I have also found that the views are pretty important, make sure you get natural ones if you buy them, don't wake up with 3,000 views, find someone that can do them out over a period of time.

I've been studying how to rank youtube videos for a few years now. I have several first page videos. How they got there I still don't know as their optimization sucks.

    Google Nightclub dancing

That is my big mug in the top position.

I have one video with over a million views as to why I think they moved to the top.

I offered valuable information in the videos and folks stayed on them.

I can also rank a video #1 in youtube real fast with the right on page seo:

    1. keyword in title
    2. description with mini article in it with keywords in there.
    3. tags

    Now I am also using:

captions and annotations to add more to it.

I just got into using fiver senuke gigs and am still testing.

I do just well with Anthony Ares RSS feed submission thing.

I also backlink with a free backlinking service that you can find by googling Free backlinking.

I do both the rss and free backlink at the same time so my videos show up on page 1 of youtube within minutes.

I am getting to the point where I know more than many of the so called guru's wso's on this subject. I buy em all and try to learn something.

Just for you naysayers about backlinks and not needing 1 or 2....

I can use 1 PR8 backlink from my private network and that will take roughly 500K pr0-pr1 backlinks you guys purchase on fiverr. NEVER underestimate the power of QUALITY back links. Something a lot of people really know nothing about.

Well I just checked my test videos and it's on page 1 under 3 different keywords using the fiver senuke and 300 views from there.

It is even beating a video that was on page one way longer than mine. I will keep you updated as to what happens as it just popped in today or yesterday. I believe I last checked it on friday.

It was created on april 19th and today is 4/30/2012. The order took a few days from fiver and it was suppose to be over a few days completion.

The video was also put on a fan page and that was blasted with 1500 likes and that page is showing up on page 2 out of the blue.

I just made another video this weekend and just ordered a new gig but for the life of me right now I cannot even remember what niche it's in or what the video was about.

    Old age is a mutha!

When I do remember I will let you guys know how it does with the fiver thing. But as it stands videos seem to be the way around this google update.

And I just remembered the video and niche...lol.

I'm looking for something that let me check my video rankings in bulk and track these rankings - I'd like to easily track how any of my action (changing description, tags, adding links etc.) will affect my rankings.

There are many things that I should assume, I learned long ago not to -

So I was being cleverly unassuming.

As to software to track your video rankings, I have no answer for you on that, I just optimize the on-page, and send links (how I have stated numerous times here), rinse and repeat.

So waht you are looking for is a software that will allow you to input a vide (url link) and then it will show you where it ranks?
      Video ============== Rank
      • youtube video 1 ============= 3
      • youtube video 2 ============= 2

I am not sure if there is one but seems that someone over there at one of those nice coding sites would be able to do that real easy.

You could try to use Rank Checker from SEOBook for this. It will allow you to export via csv. Only problem is it doesn't display right for google as there are usually multiple youtube videos for the same page so it shows nothing. I tried tracking a specific url but that didn't work.

It did work for Yahoo and Bing for me. Those videos that were ranking top 10 for yahoo and bing were also the top ranking videos for google.

I'll try a quick hack for it when I get home to see if it works and will post any results.
Just a thought. Not the best way, but it's something.

You can also try to rank videos by service. I did some video marketing for a local Doctor, and all I did was take his service list and use them for titles--- XXXXXXXXX in City.

We ranked first page for more than half of them. I also sent 200 views to each one. Often times you can rank first page within a few hours, and solidify your position within a few days.

I just uploaded a video, tried your method for a low keyword competition and it is one page 1 very fast. Will keep my eye on it to see if it sticks.

Thanks for your advice and tips.

I've been doing this a lot lately for my clients, and I've found the following process is just about foolproof for ranking on Youtube.

First of all, and this is something a lot of people overlook (I haven't seen it mentioned here yet, unless I missed it). The name of the video needs to be the keyword you're ranking for.

Don't just upload DCM0001.AVI - rename it to dentist-salem-oregon.avi before you upload it. This, in smaller cities, will get you to the #1 position within 15 minutes with no additional work required.

Below is the method I use for the title and description of the video:

    Title
Something that includes the keyword and a few short words about what they're talking about.

    Description
    =====================================
Visit us @ http://target-website.com or call [Phone]

In this video, [keyword] talks about [whatever they're talking about]. Contact us for all your [keyword] needs - [phone]

    [Directions]

    [Company Name]
    [Address]
    [Address]
    [Phone]

    [Link to this Youtube Video]

    [Keyword]

Wondering if anyone can make a suggestion to help me rank a video. I live in a fairly large city (1 mil) but I am trying to rank for something that does not appear too competitive. I got everything done on fiverr. Made the video, bought some views, got a Senuke gig ( thanks to Ry Mac), still nothing so I bought another gig with High PR Low OBL Links, which I then submitted to Linklicious. I am top video on Google Video search but not even top 10 pages for Everything search. I even added a transcript with my keywords. It has only been 1 week, should I wait or backlink some more? Or is there another recommendation? Looking for advice from those that have ranked videos on Google for everything search? Thanks in advance.

Without knowing what your niche is or your competitors, it's hard to say. PM me if you would like to discuss.

I'm sorry to tell you that Google won't let video to be on the 1st page for some particular keywords. No matter how many backlinks you add to the video, it will never show up on the1st page of Google. I'm sure your targeted keyword is one of them. Don't waste your time and money. Drop that keyword and find a new one.

      Thanks,

I am testing some of these tips out. Great thread by the way! Heres the plan.....

    1) Optimized video, title and discription.
    2) Bookmark and nuke.
    3) Get some views.
    4) Drip Socialadr
    5) Blog and forum submission.

    Ping and rss if needed.......

I know this will work a treat! It just so happens my city (3mil catchment) has no one doing this so it will be rich pickings. That is why I am going after the SEO niche first. If I get good results up against people who know the score the rest will be simple.

Although not foolproof, I'm finding that if I include the LOCAL phone number in the video TITLE that it does very well. Another trick is to get "local" backlinks if possible. Try to find blogs, classified sites, etc. I've also used AdSense on local newspaper sites to get some cheap clicks.

Think about it, why would Google reward a video promoting a local pizza parlor in Chicago with a backlink from some PR site in California? You may get a little lift for blasting backlinks but those days are over.
