Side Businesses (Hustles)

Starting a thread about ways (Offline) to make some decent money ($300 -$500/week Minimum) that does not involve marketing (SELLING MARKETING SERVICES).

I think this will help others that would like to raise capital or just have a side or a couple of side businesses.

(List Legal ways)

hus·tle
v. hus·tled, hus·tling, hus·tles

To act aggressively, especially in business dealings

I am starting and would like fellow warriors to add:

•Fruit Stand: Seasonal, about $300 to start, $1000 a day potential
•Wood Pallet: Truck or Trailer needed, Sell pallets for about $5
•Candy: Saw a video about a guy that makes $300/Week Selling candy on the NY Train during rush hour
•Lawn care: $20 minimum per yard X 15 yards/week = $300
•Window Washing: $20-$30 startup (Sponges, bulk cleaner, squeegee, bucket)
$2 minimum per window for residential (10 windows per house) = $20/house X 15 = $300
•House Cleaning: $75-$100+/week per house ($20-$30 supplies)
Pet Sitter: $10/hour X 30 hours= $300
•Avon or Mary Kay
•Selling Water: If your area has a lot of recurring droughts and at these times its illegal to water your lawn. You can rent a smaller tank truck or large water tank. Go around your area offering to water lawns. Buy some water from a water bank and sale.
•Ebay: go to yard sales, swap meets, thrift stores and find hidden treasures to sell on ebay
•Weekend Waiter:If you live in an area where theres some restaurants, and bars go there at the busiest times when they are overrun, through on an apron and act as a waiter/waitress and get some tips.
•Delivery Driver: People like pizza because of home delivery. You can offer this same service to local restaurants for a $5-$10+ fee per delivery. Best to do it on the weekend when you have nothing to do and when the restaurant is very busy.
•Ticket: Buy up tickets early to shows that are highly likely to be sold out and resale on craigslist when they are sold out.
•Sperm: Money based on height, weight, education etc. Tall college educated men receive the most. (6 month waiting period for quarantine)
•Blood: Self explanatory

I am listing very basic info and may not be 100% correct so you will have to research further for prices etc. I will be adding to this list.

You know what's funny.... You can't get away from marketing.

At least half of your "hustles" require some sort of marketing to generate business.

      Mike,

Here is one that is still legal. Stand on a busy street corner in shabby clothes holding a card board sign asking for $$$.

      Good luck w/your venture.

Oh I almost forgot this one. Send me $10 and I'll reveal my secret can't lose guaranteed to make $500 a week...

I was referring to selling marketing services and online marketing, but of course they require some form of marketing. Most at the minimum can be sustained walking door to door though.

Okay really? How many times can you visit the sperm bank?
"act as a waiter" <-- seems shady.
Ticket: Buy up tickets early to shows that are highly likely to be sold out and resale on craigslist when they are sold out. <--- That is called scalping my friend. Also if you notice most places now charge your credit card and have you bring ID to get the tickets at the venue.
Avon/Mary Kay <--- Still involves marketing and talking to people.

Hey WHY NOT JUST COLLECT UNEMPLOYMENT ? IS that not legal?

Scalping is selling tickets within a certain distance from the event i.e. 200 yards from an arena. What I am saying is sell the tickets away from the event.

Wow, I don't know what kind of bull****e list that is, but the waiter option is called STEALING, not hustling.

By the way, I hustle every day, at least in the aspect of working hard. My wife and I clean houses, detail cars, wash windows, do carpet cleaning, etc. Some of your numbers in the above examples are wrong too.

And yes, most of these things require marketing.

Yeah, you just try to walk in off the streets and start waiting tables and walking in the back and see what happens! Like everybody there doesn't know who works there and does what. Yeah, okay.... Good luck with that, Bud!

There are 2 types of people in this world....those who get it and those who don't. The ones that get it know exactly what we are talking about. The ones who don't are left scratching their heads.

Hopefully the OP can learn some lessons, take a bit of a look at themselves and do some soul searching or something. The way I thought this post was going to go was just asking for "side business" ideas that didn't involve quitting your job, and didn't involve online marketing. I'm going to pretend that's what the OP meant, and throw random ideas in:

Are you at a good skill level with something? Perhaps you could tutor:
    Music Lessons
    Any school subjects
    Computer lessons for seniors
    Martial Arts
    Yoga
    etc.

    Other ideas:
    T-shirts
Research family trees for people without the time or expertise
    Home organiser / wedding planner
Window cleaning - just go door to door ready to start, or take bookings (I've actually turned that into a business with employees in my early 20's)
    Handyman work
    Wash cars
Any type of cleaning work at all
    Get a coffee van
Run an across town emergency courier on bike
    Make craft / jewellery
Import something and sell at markets
    Walk dogs
    Personal shopper / errands service
Sell people's stuff on ebay for commission (you could even just do books or whatever)
Find a product you think is cool and not widely available in stores, or in your area. Find someone in the company who will let you go sell on commission. Gosh, you could even find a web designer here on WF (I mean, someone set up properly) and not know a thing about websites, and just go cold calling, walking in etc.

....and this topic has to give a nod to anything Martin Buckley talks about.

Honestly, you never can get away from marketing.

Even if it's just as simple as word to mouth.

That's still a form of marketing.

Hell even the drug dealer relies on marketing in the form of word of mouth.

      And that's a pretty low.

People buy products or services from other people that they know like and trust.

Not only do many of those require marketing, the ones that are legal are still going to require permits and possibly insurance. You may also be required to be bonded in many areas.

The list at first looked like it was trying to be another small business start-up article, that is until closer to the bottom when you start talking about waitering among other things. A bar or restaurant will not be too happy if you just walk into the place. They do not know you, they have not interviewed you, put you on their insurance, or any of the many other things that a real business would have to worry about.

There are lots of things that a person can do make some money, but some of those are just bad.

I used to make extra cash running a bounce house business. The key for me was buying a couple of light duty bounce houses (only meant to last one season) for $350 each on ebay. These are smaller and lighter and easier to get into peoples yards. Then I marketed on craigslist offering 2 for 1 bounce houses for $99. Then added chairs, tables and 10x10 cover upgrades. When I dropped off for a party I would canvas the neighborhood with door flyers. Tried waterslides, but don't recomend as you can't charge for the extra hassle of cleaning and drying it takes. Anyways that had tons of potential, but I got tired of the weekends being eaten up.
oh yeah also bought a cheap harbor freight trailer that folded up since I was limited in nighttime storage. So I didn't even need a truck. Just a trailer hitch. yes you have to be handy to put it together, but it's not too hard.

Always make sure you have a good contract too.

Did you have insurance in case one of the kids got hurt?

When you're dealing with kids, doesn't matter how dumb the kid, some parents are going to sue. The children could be rough housing like mad, but it will still be on you. I've seen a couple of indoor businesses like this go down under those exact circumstances. The children weren't behaving and got hurt. Then the parents sued the business into submission.
