Fish Bowl Marketing Method Idea

There's a local burger joint in my area that uses a fish bowl method to keep bringing in new and returning customers, so I thought I would share it here.

What they do is on Monday they have a fish bowl filled with pieces of paper that each offer a different discount amount from 10% off to 50% off and x-amount that offer free meal.

So when the customer goes to pay the bill the cashier asks them to go fish and pick a piece of paper to see how much they are going to save off their bill.

This has worked very well for the resturant, because everyone tells their freinds and family about it, as it's different and who dosn't like to save money.

I just thought I would share this little idea, as it might spark some other creative ideas or ways to bring in customers to other types of businesses.

All the best,

Martin

Hmmm... I think this can actually work for an online business, except the fishbowl would have to be digital :p Thanks for sharing

Now, to build on this, on the same discount coupon given to the customer, have them fill in their email for a totally FREE meal, valued up to x dollars. Why free? To make sure they will open their email when you send them your initial one, so that they can opt-in to get the free meal. If you don't want to go 100% free, give them the same discount and have them print out the coupon to bring in to reclaim it.

Now, you are building a list at the same time and you, as an offline marketer can handle their email campaigns for them by setting up their auto responder and develop their emails.

Thanks for sharing that, I just learned something new. This is a great technique and I can already see some implementations for it in my business.

This is definitely new to me. It's a new twist to offline marketing. It's fun and a saver for the customers so it is definitely effective. I would suggest this to my friend for her business.

I had thought about doing something like this a while back. I still may at some point. I've been thinking about starting a full carpet cleaning business and having techs canvass neighborhoods offering the services. They could have a fish bowl of sorts with various discounts and let the homeowners pick out of it to see if they could get the one "free cleaning" of some sort in there, but everyone gets some type of discount 10% or whatever. It gets people involved at the door, let's them meet the tech that will be out cleaning the carpet so that they feel comfortable with them already, etc. I haven't done anything yet because I'm too busy, but I might have a go at something like this when and if I start my carpet cleaning business. Between online marketing and techs canvassing neighborhoods with this method, maybe I can keep them busy with work.

A chiro client of mine uses a fish bowl for a raffle.
Each time you come in, you get a raffle ticket that gets put in a fish bowl.
At the end of the month, a winner is drawn for a gift basket.
They then post the picture to their site and social media.

I saw this month's today when I was there. It looked like gardening stuff.
My wife and I will now get 8 entries a month....
One entry for each of us, since we get a free adjustment every week.

A restaurant owner friend of mine has all red poker chips with one white one in a Crown Royal whiskey bag. When people come to the register to pay, they have a chance to reach in and if the get the white one, lunch is free.

WHen a new restaurant opens in my area....I sell them a package of 1,000 "Bee-Back" Cards.

They have a Graphic of a Bee with the words, "BEE-Back Card"! Along with a note that says; "At your next meal....hand this Card to our cashier for a Special Disount of 10% to 50% Off"!

These have also worked for me at Book Stores.

I used to run promotional sales for small retailers. During the sale, I would have a 1 day event, where the customer would pick a piece of paper with their purchase and get 10-50% off their purchase.

We would market it by direct mail to their mailing list and it worked best on their inactive customers. It would always be the highest sale day of the promotional sale.
