Hi,

I'm negotiating a deal with an offline client/partner where I'm offering cheap hosting down the line to his own customers. One of the crucial parts is my ability to get co.uk domains, he is adamant that it should be co.uk because all his customers are in the UK. I'm searching for a good registrar to get these domains at cheap prices, so they don't drain on my profits. Can warriors help me answer a few questions, please.

Can I register a co.uk for one year? Everywhere I checked so far it's 2 years while I offer one year hosting.

Can you recommend a good registrar with cheap price? I'm looking for $6 a year maximum.

Does co.uk help in the UK's Google results? That is the main justification my client gives for the co.uk domains. Also, as this is for the UK market, is it a valid point that a co.uk will be better recognized than a .com?

Thanks for reading.

You can get a free .co.uk domain from Welcome to Getting British Business Online, not sure if it is viable in the volumes that you want, but if each of your partners customers only want 1 domain then it could be useful.

Yes .co.uk gets a ranking boost in the UK (due to localisation), but no more than setting a .com etc to target the UK in webmasters tools.

Thanks massiveray. GBBO unfortunately forces a 60 days Yola hosting so I wouldn't be able to use mine. Do you know anything about siteopia? They boast cheapest co.uk's in the market.

I always register my .co.uk domains at Domain name registration | Domain names | Web Hosting | 123-reg (not affiliate). They charge £2.99 per year, but Nominet force the 2 year renewal minimum.

Thanks Roger, that's absolutely the best deal I've seen so far. Probably will follow this one. Can you tell me how long you've been using them and how is their support and nameservers setup working for you?

I've used them for years now, and never really had a problem. Quickest Nameserver change took place in under an hour, but really you need to give 24 hours.

They have plenty of options in their control panel for ns changes, editing MX records, domain forwarding etc., etc.

Backed by WebFusion now, who have grown significantly over the past few years.

I use 123 reg also and name servers take 2-3 days to transfer

Thanks. That's stellar info guys. I will drop them a ticket still to check what they say about it, but they sound like my dealbreaker.
