Debate: Fishing vs fruit picking'

I'd love to hear the collective wisdom here on this debate, especially as it relates to lead gen sites and the rent a site model.

Fishing - fishing is hard work and sometimes it takes a while to land a fish, but when you do, oh my the eating is good! Think doctors, attorneys, and dentists.

Picking fruit, on the other hand, is so much easier. You don't get so full on each piece, but you can just walk out there and start picking right away.

It seems like there are so many less competitive local niches that, while they may only pay 20 - 40 per lead, instead of 70 - 120 like real estate, attorneys, etc, ad much easier to rank quickly for, so you gat a site and running, get a contract, and move on to the next one.

Any thoughts?

Volume always wins over grosses in my opinion.

Sam Walton proved this and to this day people fight it.

If you can put little effort into something and make a small but nice profit on each it is good. Especially when you know it will get good volume.

I prefer quality over quantity. I'd rather have 10 great client paying me a $1,000/month as apposed to 100 clients paying $100/month.

I don't sell leads but I would think it all boils down to ROI. What earns you more per amount of input?

What are your margins when you sell a lead for $120? What are your margins when you sell for $20? Does one give you the chance to scale bigger?
