What are you putting for your Subject?

I am not about to start e-mailing, but for the one's who will, I am sure they are curious.

The subject line for the email I sent to her was *Couldn't find your listing* the other ones were *Your listing.*

I agree that was a good respnse rate and I don't want anyone to think that it always happens that way because it doesn't. It all depends on how you word your email. You can NOT come off as a regular email spammer. I think this one worked so good because it sounded like I was actually trying to help them.

I got really lucky with that lawyer though, clearly she was already looking to get this done and you will come across people like that (even on the phones) When I'm selling websites people often tell me *I'm glad you called* or *I was just thinking about getting this done* so it's all about finding that one person that actually WANTS your service.

A lot of people say we should be looking for people that NEED your service, but I disagree. The majority of the people we contact need what we're offering..the question is..do they WANT it.

Yes, it is great when you come across those people, I had a direct mail piece, and when the guy returned the call it went something like this:

"I was JUST talking to my wife about this, I am tired of Vista Print and my site looks crappy, and I spend to much time on it. I want a really professional looking site, and I know they aren't cheap, but I am ready to get one, for example I like *this site* and *this site*, also, do you do google places listings? I really want to do that"

I just smiled on my end of the phone, it was the easiest conversation I had, it pretty much had a check in his hand on his return call, desperate.

You mentioned in your post that you were doing screen captures for each email you sent. Was this the image of the first page of Google results for "city keyword" and letting them know they aren't on the first page of G? Can you give a bit more detail on this?

For your subject line did you just put "Couldn't find your listing" with no quotes correct?

I only did screen captures for 3 of the emails sent. It was of their empty listing lol You know how you go the page and it says *are you the owner* or whatever it says, that's the part I sent them so they could see how unfinished it looked.

Yes, that's what I put for the subject line. I will point out that I didn't get any responses from the emails sent with the screen captures, but one of them came back as undeliverable.

The lawyer is calling me tomorrow to discuss pricing and all of that, he requested more detailed info via email and called me after he read everything that I was offering. So we'll see how that goes, the other 2 that responded were too cheap, not worth my time even though I'm outsourcing lol They basically wanted everything for like $250, I don't even sell websites for that cheap anymore lol

A lot of these business owners actually think you NEED them just because they're paying you. They have this attitude as if you work for them, not you're a business owner just like them. It's probably because a lot of sales people might come off as desperate as though they do need them.

What sort of pricing are you doing for your Google Places services? Setup Fee? Monthly fee?

Any update on your lawyer client? Did you close the deal and settled on a price point?

Another question I had is should we be targeting businesses that do not have their GPlaces claimed and are not on the first page of SERPs correct? I did a quick search for the keyword "lawyer city" for my town and the first business that shows up at the "A" spot is not claimed and does not list a website for their business as well. Should I still target this business even though they are at the top of GPlaces already without even claiming their Places listing?

Any suggestions?

I cant see how people DONT make money offering online services to local businesses.

I know right, but I think the problem is people think the ones making money are *special* or really good at sales. I actually HATE talking to people in general lol I am not social at all, but if I can pick up a phone, send an email, etc..to make money..why not do it?

Some people also get stuck trying to learn everything, thinking they need a business bank account, registered name, website, etc..Of course you will want to get all of that eventually, but it's not necessary your first week if you're not able to get it.

I got a check last week in my name because of some crap the bank gave me about the way I registered my new DBA so I was unable to deposit anything into my business bank account. The client couldn't care less as long as I'm doing what he's paying me to, he would of wrote the check out to SpongeBob Squarepants lol (my daughter is watching that right now, so it was easy not to think of anything else

)

Way to go Deidra! I'll have to check out getlisted.org (wonder if it is just for the US?) as I'm in Canada, but this is awesome. I'll remember that subject line too. Who says email marketing doesn't work? My first client is actually a health food store, that I'm a customer at. So while it is a "slow burn" don't forget those businsses that you are a customer at to begin with.

The relationship is already there.

Infofree is absolutely amazing. I'm getting it for half the price because I have Bob Ross's wso and he gives you a promotional code for it, but it's very useful. You can't download the email addresses because of the Can-Spam law, but you can still view and print them.

They also have millions of consumer lists too, which is great for offering direct mail campaigns to your clients, you should really check it out.

But you know I'm a cold caller too right? lol

If you get no response..send 10 more and repeat it over and over. It doesn't always happen as quickly as it did for me, I've had to send at least 30 to get 1 response in some cases.

I will say, I've never really had to send hundreds of emails just to get a response like a lot of people say they have, but if you don't get any responses, you should eventually pick up the phone.

You can always use getlisted to find the unclaimed listings and actually call them or send a direct mail piece. I will be using this strategy to make calls next week to see how it goes. I think I'll just offer to send them the information on how to claim their listing via email, but I like to just flat out go for the sale, so I'll see if I can contain myself lol

First off great job on finding a simple way to get your foot in the door. Yes you can offer to claim those listings for people as well.

A word of caution though, be sure they really don't have an unclaimed listing as that site is dodgy at best sometimes.

Its told me on several occasions after checking some of my clients that listings weren't claimed and indeed they were. So just ensure you double check or word things that leaves you an out so you don't end up with egg on your face.

I will tell you but you have to keep it a secret..my cellphone lol Sometimes I use skype, but they have a 50 call limit per day, so it's useless to me.

My cellphone does just fine, I have never been able to use Callfire or SafeSoft Solutions for whatever reason, I would have liked to try those out, but I couldn't get my list to upload to Callfire and the rep for SafeSoft couldn't get it to load on their platform and then he just never called me back. This was all before I had infofree, so that list was pretty big, I may try it with this new list, but for now the cellphone works just fine.

Fantastic approach to soft sell them. Giving them great information first shows that you are the expert (even if you barely know more than they do). It gets them into a very receptive mood. There is some pretty in depth psychology going on with it but we are hard wired to respond to it.

It is one of the reasons webinars that actually provide great information convert so well. Keep up the good work.

It would really benefit your company to claim and set up your listing so people searching for your services can find you.

What you need to do to claim your listing is go to maps.google.com and follow the steps by simply filling out your business contact information. Be sure to add photos, videos, etc..so it can start moving up in the search engines.

Here's the thing, I don't even do google places..I just wanted to see if this would work because people get so caught up on other people's opinions sometimes that it stops them from doing ANYTHING. Once you hear someone say email marketing doesn't work, now you're on to cold calling. Once you hear 7589400 people say cold calling doesn't work (lol) now you're scared to do that.

The moral to this story is DO SOMETHING, it all works..you just have to do it consistantly. In this case I literally only sent 7 emails, I was trying for 10, but the first few I was sending screen captures and I got tired of the manual labor, so I stopped at 7 lol

Please don't tell me this isn't enough to say this works or she isn't a client yet, I know what makes a client, that's not the point of this post. This is just an example, I do email marketing on a consistant basis. I'm just proving a point that if you do SOMETHING you will get a response no matter what that something is.

There is enough information on this offline forum for you to take a method and go sell a service. Like I said I don't even know how to do Google Places, so what am I doing now? Reading the forums and learning how to EXPLAIN it and finding someone to outsource it to lol Did I care that it's probably a few hundred people saying *don't sell something you know nothing about?* of course not..why? because while someone is trying to collect all this information figuring out how to DO it, I just learned how to SELL it and find someone to do it for me.

I already figured out the basics..how to claim the page, what to include in the package, and this is a lawyer so I'm planning on walking away with a nice profit.

Just waiting for her assistant to call me back with a time for us to speak.

I don't mind at all. The code is either in his saturation mailings or targeted mailing (I think it's actually called Rapid Response) wso. I have them both, so I forgot which one he provides the code in..sorry.

I'm sure you can send him a message and he'll let you know. Both of the WSOs are great too, not just for the code, but I've made money with his saturation mailings method too.

You'll need to educate them on the importance of following up with their customers. Right after a sale when the customers information is entered into the database (or at the end of the day) the first email should be thanking them for their business and asking for a review online at Yelp, Google, or yellowbook.

I wanted to add that email can work.. I literally sent out 1 or 2 about rep management and got a response. I stopped that because I didn't have a clue how to respond when they asked what I could do... I still am not sure and it seems complicated. Google places seems to be a much simpler service to handle.

Deidre, I feel bad asking after all you have shared already but can you possible expand on the detailed info you send after the lawyer asked for more information?

Whatever service you want to offer you could basically search the forums where someone is giving away free information about that service. The same way they explain to us how to provide the service is how you would tell that prospect what you're going to do for them.

You're not just limited to this forum either. You can go to Youtube and find a *how to* video and get the information from their, then you'll sound like you really know what you're talking about lol

That's exactly what I did. I wouldn't take info from a wso sales page because those people are selling that information, but when someone gives something away for free..teaching you how to do it, you can take that and educate someone else with that same information.

I looked at Tim Castleman's video about google places and some other threads just to get basic information about how to optomize a listing so he could get a general idea of what will take place.

As far as reputation management. I believe PositiveVibe has a free thread about it. You may want to look into that. Once you get enough information, that *seems* like it should be easy to explain. I've never tried it though, so I don't know, but it doesn't seem that complicated to explain.

Am going to try this now, i do Google Places optimization for my clients and others outsource to me also. The thing to remember is that most business owners don't know about Google Places / SEO etc. YOU are the expert and most, once you explain it to them, would be glad of the help.

Hey Deidra,

That is exactly how it is done...you soak in the info and develop your own strategy. I know many people will tell you in their info product to follow the steps exactly as they spell it out...but imagine a business owner getting several hundred identical emails.

You definitely have to be original to succeed in email marketing and that begins with letting your personality shine with your emails.

My only success so far has come from email marketing and referrals from a job well done. I applaud your originality and thanks for this post.

Thanks Deidra, I was getting ready to do this very thing with a slight twist. I was going to offer the business owner a pdf file (made from a wso I bought) that they could download for free that showed them how claim listings in 15 different directories.

The goal is to capture their contact information so even if the don't hire me for claiming their listings, I can still offer them other services.

Your email is perfect for this. I am going to add the download offer as a post script. And for fun, I will split test without the P.S.

Congratulations Deidra - that is EXACTLY how I launched my offline career a couple of years ago, it does work like a charm.

What I would love to have is a script like Get Listeds on my own website... that is a sweet system that they have there. I suppose there is some bright mind in here that has a solution... anyone?!

Thanks for sharing your technique. I started sending emails just the other day, but I'm curious about the email marketing part. So far, I've been sending emails from my gmail account and was wondering if after a while, would my emails eventually start going directly into spam folders (if the businesses start flagging my email as spam)? Just wondering if using gmail email accounts is the best way to go about this. thanks

Hi Deidra,

Just wanted to thank you for an excellent post about how to get Google Places clients. I used your email template almost verbatim as a direct mail letter and it has gotten me 4 new clients using this method alone... so far. The last one became official early this morning (yes early Saturday morning).

Ironically I had not had the same success using email but that might be because I am using Places Scout to scrape listings that are not owner verified and most of those don't have an email handy. But then again emails hit or miss and results are never steady, at least for me.

The way you word your message is everything. I had gotten clients before with the same "general" message but not as good of an initial response as using your example above.

Please follow up on this thread Deidra. It really is gold! I am about to start using voice broadcasting to help find leads with this method.

Awesome work! I'm about to do direct mail as well and will probably use this template for my test run as well.

By the way how did you send your letter to your potential clients? Did you do bulk mail by having dice in there? Did you do just regular white envelope with hand written address and stamp with no return address? Fedex envelope? USPS priority mail? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Also for the 4 new clients you got what sort of pricing are you quoting them as far as Google Places service? Are you doing a setup fee and then a monthly retainer fee?
