One of those I met was John Spangler when I came across a thread he wrote sharing his method for getting offline clients. I read the thread and was amazed at what he shared. It instantly inspired me to go out and implement what he shared. Within a couple of days, I had some great results and within about 14 days I had built a business making 1K - 3K per project and a minimum of $500 recurring on each deal.
I continued to post my progress on John's thread and again met some pretty cool people along the way. Based on the comments in the thread, PM's and emails, I thought it would be a good idea to chronicle my daily activities on a blog. So I built one and began posting daily. I would make calls to business owners, set up my interviews, go out and meet them and turn them into clients, leaving with a check no less that $1K. Then I would come back, shoot a video and post it on my blog, often times before I had dinner.
This model work well for me and I enjoyed the accountability and the friends I made along the way. The business was up to about $7K in monthly recurring.
Then something happened.
I had a sporting accident and tore my rotator cuff. After several days of doctors visits, I had surgery to repair my left shoulder. Everything came to a screeching halt. I was laid up with one arm in a sling, taking some of the strongest pain meds available and a business in it's infant stages that was growing fast.
My focus was no longer on my business but how do I manage my pain and avoid the powerful addictive nature of the medications I was taking.
Eventually, I was able to find a compromise between the two and I could focus on my work as best I could during the healing process.
So the question became, how can I continue to do this if: 1) I'm high as a kite half the time, 2) I can't drive to meet with prospects, and 3) who's going to get the work done needed to fulfill the obligation of the clients I taken on.
So I became an expert at outsourcing first. Once I was able to hire good people and meet my obligations, I started focusing on how can I get more clients from the comfort of my recliner with a lap top.
Before I tell what I did, let me give you the gist of what I learned from John Spangler that got me to $7K monthly recurring:
I would call up small biz owners and ask to interview them. Once they agreed, I would drive out to meet with them at their business, interview them, then segue the conversation to me showing them what was wrong with their website site (there's always something that can be improved), then close them on a site redesign,a mobile site, monthly recurring....that's all. Then it's back home to start the work. If you want more on this, you must check out Spangler's thread. It is a life changer!
Here's what I do now:
I call small biz owners and schedule an interview to be conducted via the phone. Now they couldn't tell I was on pain meds because they couldn't see me. Trust me, when I was taking them and you saw me, you could tell! Using my script, I would interview them.
If they wanted to know what was wrong with their site and how to fix it, I would move them to gotomeeting and through a shared screen, I would work my magic. Once I closed them, they would be offered a package. Once they agreed, I would literally send them a paypal link while we were on the phone and walk them through payment.
This quickly took my business to $11K recurring within one week.
How I Closed A $5000 Deal With A Webinar...
I called up a biz owner and asked if she would be interested in allowing me to interview her (Spangler method). Of course since it was free publicity for her, she agreed. We set the time for that afternoon.
I completed the interview in about 20 minutes and learn she hated her website and needed SEO because she wanted to "smoke" her competitors. However, she insisted on wanting to know more about what SEO would do for her business.
The webinar was set for the following morning.
Once online, I took here through a SEO presentation and she was blown away. At the end of the presentation (only 54 minutes long), I walked her through what was going to be done and set the expectation for the work. She agreed on the site redesign and a mobile site for $5K. Then she agreed on $500/monthly for SEO work. Because we had built such great rapport, she allowed a companion to pick up my payment.
My entire business has since evolved. We are doing direct mailing now, driving them to a webinar. We are still calling and setting up interviews, moving them online, offering to fix their sites, and closing them on the phone.
I do tons of webinars with a different presentation for facebook, SEO, Mobile Services, Youtube marketing, social media, and instant income growth.
I was able to get some PLR stuff, make it my own and put together a book! It's now on Amazon. It has given me instant credibility as the expert which now allows me to command higher prices.
Now we are offering a complete "done for you services" that offers article writing, social media marketing, email marketing, mobile marketing, youtube videos...name it and for the right price, we are doing it. We are now a full service company.
Once the deals are closed, I send all the work to my outsourcers and all I focus on are getting more deals.
I freaking love it!
I was forced to make these changes to my business because I couldn't leave my house...now I choose not to leave.
I know this post is long but I wanted to really convey what has happened. And while it has evolved from the simple yet ultra effective method Spangler taught me, we are now growing every week!
P.S. After two procedures with my shoulder, I'm now 100% healed and avoided the addiction I so feared.
