What Do You Do If Your Rankings Go Down??

For those who sell SEO for clients, for whatever reason if your main website goes down in rankings whether its from page 1 to page 2, 3, or even sandbox to page 12 do you STOP promoting your services until your back on page 1 OR do you still promote to get new clients even though your own site is failing at the moment?

This happend to one of my sites but it has got me down that I dont want to sell myself until im back where I was and who knows how long that will take.

What would you do?

I've never had a client go down drastically, but first thing I would do is let them know up front that I don't own Google. I do this before closing though, that I have experience getting websites up. I outline what steps I'm going to take and that I'll report progress throughout the process.

Usually I'll receive a fee upfront on a per keyword basis and then a monthly fee once first page rankings are achieved for keeping them there and growing their rankings. If I couldn't keep them there for any reason I would work without payment until they returned there. I'd really try to figure out why the site wasn't ranking, and if I determined it was impossible I'd recommend other services that would deliver the customers their SEO and website was delivering.

If they agreed I'd implement those and still try to help retrieve their rankings. I don't believe any site is unrankable, and when it returned I'd notify them. If they decided they didn't want to continue I'd try to leave them as amicably as possible. Theoretically they would have gotten a good deal of business from the rankings.

I always try to make sure they understand the end result is new business and that there are many ways to getting new business.

SEO plays a very important role in promoting a website. You should not stop doing SEO even when your site has a high traffic. With many years of doing SEO, I think that one of the main reason why your website goes down in rankings is that your competitior has made more effort to enhance the SEO than you. Therefore, you need to take more time to create a new SEO plan to renew your site such as choosing other SEO methods, adding new content, creating Youtube video, etc. If you are patient and make a great investment on SEO, you will get what you want.

Ok, maybe I was not clear in my post. Im speaking about the SEO website losing rankings. Not the clients site.

So lets say you sell SEO and you are on page 1 for SEO service and then you fall back to page 10. Do you STILL sell your services OR do you hlat production until you can get back your page 1 ranking so you can look good in the eyes of future clients?

You would have a difficult time convincing me that you can have any reliable control over how Google renders its SERPs, especially when I know you don't work there and you can't demonstrate satisfactory results for your own site.

Why in the world would you stop promoting your services? That's a sure way to go out of business. I haven't even started ranking my website but it's not stoping me from doing business and getting clients. I have several clients with 1st page rankings to show I know what I'm doing. Stop focusing so much on your own site and focus on your clients.

It usually take 3 months to filter again . So make sure your site will be totally clean before it filter again.
For me i believe i will stop the service because SEO service is hard to gain trust with own website get into sandbox which they might lack of trust to continue with you.
