An Idea that's Dead on the Money! Pun Intended :)

Hey guys, excuse me for posting this if it's already common knowledge, but, I literally just saw this story while watching the news...and thought to myself; "wow, what a brilliant idea!"

I don't really consider myself an internet marketer, so, no use for me, however, I can see this as being BIG ~ as in a million dollar business for you online guys.

It's applying QR codes to grave headstones and linking it to a mobile/online memorial.

Here's a link to a random website I found online:

Preserve your loved ones memories with our QR Memorials

Not my cup of tea, for sure, but, for you tech guys, I'd be on this one like white on rice

Yeah, I see money in it... but I really don't think QR codes are going to be around for the long haul.

For the right person, I can see it working out. Not my cup of tea either... not to mention, what happens if its defaced to go somewhere else. Would be awful.

Actually, I think QR codes are a pretty good idea, but, then again, I've never even used one myself (that should tell you something, lol). IMO, I think they're mostly being used by the 30 and under crowd. They're neat, however, until someone can develop a use for them aside from pointless things like looking up a price/information, getting a discount on a product, etc., I think it'll remain a "fad" for the younger set.

I also liken them to a tracking device. Big brother is already snooping in on every aspect of our lives. The last thing I want to do is WILLINGLY give any more of my info than they already have on me

Actually, they are more popular in the over 40's crowd, which seems weird doesn't it? The younger people don't use them as much.

I did a polling session where I called and just asked a few questions to some businesses and less than 1% of the businesses AND employees knew what QR codes were. Of the 1%, I think only 2 actively scanned the codes.

Until a scanner comes preinstalled, I don't think it will pick up. The reason I think that, is because it is assuming someone has a smart phone, it assumes you have a scanner, and it assumes you care enough to scan it. How many people will download a scanner, just so they can be marketed to? Know what I mean?

I think QR codes are almost useless in marketing. Huge gaffs have already been made by them, google dropped them, it's big in the asian market but I don't see it ever growing over here. Of course, this is my own opinion.

There are people that make a killing with QR codes.. I don't really recommend any of my clients to use one, even if I can charge for a QR code strategy. There is usually a BIG HOLE in a clients marketing, that a QR code is not going to make up for LOL.

I'm glad you signed up.. I like a lot of your posts so far, nice to have another contributor on the forum!

I didn't know that a QR code once set can then be altered to be redirected. If you know of any documentation on how that is done so that it can be prevented I would love to know about it. I just started using QR codes and sure want to know more about this. Come over to the Amplegreen Foundation website and post any updates. Be sure to join and leave comments about subject that interest you especially if it involves QR code advertising.

Yeah, someone had shared this exact idea under the Mobile marketing forum 5-6 months ago. I think there is a huge thread where warriors discussed on this idea but not sure if I'd be able to find it.

This service will become more popular as more phones are distributed with Near Field Communication capabilities built in. NFC has some real advantages and is uniformly predicted to replace QR codes.

Keep an eye on the new phones coming out and expect the paradigm shift to take at least 24 months.

    I think.

For some reason QR codes really haven't caught on the same way in North America as they have in Europe and Asia.

That being said, if the mobile explosion continues and as they predict the PC user will become the minority (already technically are). I see no other way but for QR codes to start to catch on as they are a faster, convenient option to content.
