Google Places Acting Up?

I have a big problem here and not sure what's going on.

Two of my clients' Google Places listings have changed without us doing anything. The 1st one lost all her pictures and it started to use her cell phone # instead of her actual business number. The 2nd lost his primary phone number and now no number is listed.

What's really odd is when I log into their Places accounts, all the data is still there in the profiles.

I haven't touched these accounts in months, so not sure what the heck is going on. Anyone else experiencing this?

Sounds to me like one of two things happened (is happening):

    1) Someone with the password is monkeying around in the Places page

    2) Google is playing with how they display results in the SERP

While my instinct is to go with Ockham's Razor, Google is always testing new SERP organization - especially with regard to Places.

I would make sure the info is correct in Places. Change the password. Assure the customer that any display changes are being done by G and that you will keep an eye on it and react if a permanent change/edit is needed.

This is most likely what happened...

Citation Problem - client might have filled in something themself somewhere and created a conflicting citation (my client's do it all the time and it causes problems).

Solution: Do a citation search for the problem phone #, see where it shows and get rid of it.

It happened to me with two of my GP listings. It will come back in 2-4 weeks. The problem I'm seeing is that when I click "More results near [city name] it only displays 10: 7 GP and 3 organic listings. Unfortunately I cannot see the videos I uploaded.

Google's always monkeying with their algorithms. Nothing to worry about. Oh, and I've heard of others who've had the same issues. Keep building the reviews.

          No bug and bug.

The only showing 10 Places is a bug. I blogged it and reported to Google and engineers are working on it.

The phone # disappearing or being replaced by some other number - sometimes fax, sometimes cell or whatever, that's also a bug.

It can mess up your rankings and citations to have the wrong # showing and can hurt the biz to have no # showing. So you def don't want to take the advice of just wait and it will come back.

This is the best way to fix incorrect data on your listing,,,

Use Google's Fix a Problem Troubleshooter
(Be sure be logged into the same account your Place page is in)

          My listing has incorrect information
          >> I have verified - Yes >> I have used report a problem - Yes >>
Select top option - Listing data >> THEN CLICK LINK bottom of page that says "use this form to specify correct business info"

Google will typically get back to you within a week or so. They are a little backed up right now.

The above poster is correct- this works. One client had a persistent problem. I followed this course and got what looked like an auto reply saying the problem had been fixed (it hadn't). So I replied one more time politely (although by then the owner was about to kill the person who hired me) and this time they fixed 3 problems perfectly.
