Pinterest Marketing 101

Social media marketing is a good web site traffic generation tactic. Pinterest is currently gaining a lot of hype in the marketing industry. Pinterest is just like Facebook but instead of using status updates in words, you upload images which are called 'pins.' The three strategies used to generate traffic to your web site with Pinterest are:

1. Pinning images from the site promoted
2. Repinning images of others (the more you share, the more people would share your pins too)
3. Commenting on pinned images

There are lots of things to take note with Pinterest marketing, but one important thing to do today is to make an account and get oriented with the system. One thing though, Pinterest works by a 'referral system.' So won't be able to create an account without an invite or asking Pinterest directly for an invite.

This is an odd kind of post for an offline marketing forum

Odd, you know, because it's another fashionable, silly "me too!" way of doing online marketing. Just saying.

I love Pinterest for building up a clients web site for them. It ranks very easy and google is giving it a ton of love as long as you set it up right. I have used it for car lots, tattoo shops, and some craft shops and besides the boost their own web sites are getting all of their pinterest accounts are on the first page of google also for many different keywords.

Pinterest is very popular with my wife & all her friends. Certain demographics are definitely going to be hanging out on there. Whilst ever that's the case, it can no doubt be utilised. Just another tool in the arsenal (that will no doubt bring on a slew of WSO's lol)...

This isn't an offline marketing thread indeed.
But you are right about the popularity of Pinterest at the moment. You have given just a basic description on how to use Pinterest as a Marketing tool, but I got to say that it's true. But by just ''repinning'' or commenting you aren't there. Deciding what to pin or repin is important. Your description is also very important. It's got to be catchy, unique, and it needs a CTA.

As far as offline marketing it can be great for certain industries.

Hair salons do well with it because you can pin pictures of people that just got their hair done and others can see what a good stylist you are.

Bands can pin pictures of their last gig.

Restaurants can pin pictures of their dishes.

The list goes on and on, you just have to be creative. And it tends to work best with a B2C company and not really a B2B.

And all of your pictures can be linked to a page that has a coupon or some kind of offer on it to entice people to use your service or product.

The traffic has died down on it though, they might be suffering from the G+ syndrome. Once the hype dies down is when you will really see it it can stand on it's own two legs.

Time will tell but might as well take advantage of it now.
