Sold my SEO services to a local contractor.

OFFLINE MARKETING

We'll funny story - I had a contractor come out this past weekend to replace a few windows on my house and a few other minor repairs.. the job took him half a day to complete, I ended up ordering pizza for him and his crew and praised him for the great contracting work they did...so I started chatting with him about getting his website more exposure via Google.

I ran through a few keyword searches and showed him the amount of traffic he could be getting. I just kept it real cool and simple.

We'll...I ended up selling him on SEO services. He has a simple 5 page site HTML which should end up doing fine for SEO purposes.

I signed him up for $500/month for 5 keywords and I "waived" my sign up fee for him.

He already paid me the first month via PayPal today!!!

I think it just goes to show how many people need SEO services there must be 100's of small business owners who wouldn't have a clue where to start to improve their site. Just goes to show if you don't ask you won't find out if you can sell your services.

  Congrats....and there's a Liquid Gold Nugget that Fred inadvertently gave....
  
  Small contractors LOVE beer and every local bar is filled with a bunch of them after work.
  Perform for one and they'll tell lots of friends....from other trades.
  There's no gatekeepers in bars.
  
  Quick story....
  I once had some work done and gave them a beer afterwards. One guy took the bottle of Fosters...looked at it with love in his eyes....and said Aaaah, my favorite beer. Fosters I said ? No, FREE

This drives me effn crazy I will be honest. I just moved into a new home a couple of months ago, so naturally I have called at least 5-6 different companies just to come out and to do work. Had an inspector, a plumber, a heating guy, an exterminator, a painting crew, then some people to lay down our rugs.

The funny part is ANYtime a business comes into my house I HAVE to ask how they get their business/leads. Its like I won't allow them in the house unless they answer the question first lol. So I just wind up giving them free tips and advice and explaining things in a way they can understand.

I remember the painters asked me if I could do anything for their site and like an idiot I said I had a job and didn't really have the time. Back then I had no idea how simple it was to outsource the work. I could have probably closed at least 2 of these companies if I was aggressive enough and got all the work done on my home for half price.

Just more reasons why I need to get a pitch together and start selling SEO

Great way to get new clients! It's incredible how a comfortable setting can really "put down the guard" of contractors. In their minds, you're acting as their friend and not some big SEO company. That's the way to do it.

  Great comment guys and yeah it does work a lot better then calling and emailing companies, thats for sure. I had a landlord who was in all kind of trading business and he got me quite a few clients.

These types of businesses are "Low Hanging" Fruit, but my advice is not to trade services. Otherwise it becomes a bottomless pit. Attach a value to your time, let the contractor do the same. Do a great job for the contractor and they will refer their contracting buddies.
