Since Penguin - Clients Google Places SERPS Disappeared Yet I Still appear #1 organically?

Ever since penguin came out I have completely disappeared off my geotargeted keywords for places listing yet I appear #1 for the organic listing?

To answer your question yes I brought some links, before penguin came out, I am assuming that is what caused it yet my organic rankings are fine?

Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Same thing happened to me. My client's Google Places has disappeared, but organic rankings has increased.

    Weird.

Where did you point the links, to the GP listing or website?

It doesn't. I have a client whose GP got outranked by an unclaimed places page. We're throwing more money at it so I can dominate the listing with more content, social bookmarks, rss, etc.

A strange, and similar, thing I noticed today was on my one local site that got "hit".

When searching my geotargeted keyword (EX: Las Vegas Keyword) my organic and places rankings dropped way off. But if I just search just "keyword" (and Las Vegas as my search from setting) I am now in the A-Spot, which is 1st on an organic search.

I am 98.26% sure I was never there when searching without the city modifiers. (I didn't always check that version on this one)

And being that my traffic has stayed the same, I am thinking this update targeted the funky geo-targeted searches only?

    • I posted this advice to electronik69 over in the Places forum and thought I'd re-post in case he didn't see it there or in case it helps anyone here.

Penguin affects organic ranking not Places and if you are still ranking organic then that's not what this is about.

The reasons I know of that a Place page disconnects from the organic listing are dupe confusion, NAP confusion or Places guidelines violations or ranking penalty.

Didn’t' find any dupes. Didn't have time to analyze NAP.

But see some reasons your Place page could be penalized and possibly why it's disconnected.

Title: Eclipse Solar | Sunshine Coast
It appears your name is just Eclipse Solar. If so the rest has to go. You can't add any keywords or geo to title.

Your description is keyword stuffed and could look spammy to the algo. Best practice is don't repeat city, business name at all and keyword only once max.You have solar in there 4 times. I think too much repetition of solar in categories possibly too.

    ^^ Correct.

Penguin has absolutely NOTHING to do with places, video or images in ranking, only the organic. You probably have a completely different issue.

I'm confused. I've heard of the Google Panda, but what is the Penguin? Is there a link on this forum that explains it further?
