What if the business goes under and they owe you?
They insisted that they'd send me a check in a couple days, made up some baloney excuses which I fell for and I was content because they gave me their word. This was 30 days ago. Today I stopped by their business and saw a closed sign on the front door. The lights were off and it was only 4:00 pm. There was also some stuff in front of the main door on the inside, (looking like nobody had been in there yet today).
Anyhow, now I don't know what to do. Am I just screwed out of over $4,000? I'm wondering if anybody has hit this one yet and what they did. Any legal routes I can take? I have a feeling I just have eat this one and learn a big lesson about always not only getting payment in advance, (I did), but waiting for the check to clear before even starting work on their campaigns.
One last thing, she insisted she didn't have a company credit card or personal one she could put the bill on. That should have been a big red flag for me, but this was one of my first accounts and I was just excited to get it going.
