Local Web Directories for Local SEO?

Hi guys,

I was wondering, if any of you do SEO for their local clients, do you also use local/national high PR, do-follow directories? In your opinion, is this penguin/panda safe?

Because I think it definitely should be. It's perfectly normal for a webmaster to advertise his site in the local web directories, is it not?

Anyway, would love to hear your opinions on this

Nofollow vs dofollow = forget about it, it isn't important.

high pr vs low pr = don't worry about it.

The only links you should build, are ones that are intended to bring you additional traffic. Don't build links just to build links. Build links to market yourself. Spamming, don't do it. Business directories, absolutely, these sites have traffic!

The only thing to watch out for with directories, are the ones that are built and have certain malicious code on the site. Directories, that are reputable are definitely good for your link building.

Hey iAmNameless, can you please give me(and other people who are working on creating directory sites) some tips how to go about outsourcing SEO for a local web directory site? I have ZERO knowledge on SEO, so I would appreciate if you can give me some tips on what would be the most important parts of ranking a local directory higher on google?

I think that submitting to reputable directories is a still a great way to get your site indexed and off to a good start. Not a bad idea if your site needs a few fresh new listing or two, either.

I recommend you submit your local website to LOCAL NICHE or NATIONAL NICHE DIRECTORIES.

So, if your niche is dentist in Seattle, then you should submit to directory which lists Seattle dentists, Washington dentists or United States dentists.

Within US, you have 3 level of directories this way. It is best to start with city level as it is more targeted.
