Legal requirements for Offline

Hey,

So im just about to start my first offline venture, ive set up my website, business designed and letter heads designed, not printed yet however.

But nothing is registered as a business or sole trader or anything, the only thing I have done is opened a business account but no money has been paid in or anything.

So before I start sending out reports and doing getting clients etc I just would like to know what are the legal requirements,

things such as do I have to put certain things on my letters I send out, do I have to put certain things on the website etc. For example one thing I think I read was you have to have your address visible on everypage?

Im in the UK and really just not sure what to do or what path to take in regards to all this.

So hoping for someone whos already set up to share some information,

Thanks
Matthew

This is hilariously bad advice - if his first client sues him, he has no business entity to protect his personal assets.

      1. Research how to get your business set up legally in the UK.
      2. Hire a lawyer and get some contracts done up.
      3. Write a business plan and do market research.

I know this is pretty wild advice for this forum, but it's the right advice and if you do anything else, you're screwed when it hits the fan.

So your saying to just start and not worry about meeting any kind of legal requirements and then once you have made money, pay for someone to give you legal advice on how to do it all within the guidelines?

    Hmm

Can anyone else share some of their experience?

    What im talking about is,

You see a WSO about offline and you go and put it into action.

But there obviously must be certain legal issues before you can just start sending out mail to people or cold calling trying to sell your services?

Surly you cant just pick up the phone and do it without certain guidelines?

Just want to know the experience of other people

Most WSO creators don't practice what they teach. It's business... either freelance or be a business. Your choice.. here you can't open a business account without a license.

As for basic tasks like calling and emailing... You're probably just hesitating and thinking up an excuse of why you can't do this... so you put it off.

No im not trying to make excuses to not start, I want to make sure what I do is within the rules and make sure I dont end up being sued or fined.

Send one wrong thing to the wrong person then thats it, game over.

So again, im just saying as an example, there's so many offline threads and WSOs about looking in the local ads and sending a report, or cold calling or whatever, and yet it is made out to be that you can just over night pick the phone up or start mailing at the flick of the switch with no regards to proper business practise / legalities...at least that what it seems like as nothing like that is ever mentioned.

So again, out of all the people here who claimed to make making money offline and with many clients etc, what would did you do in the beginning to ensure everything was above board.

Seems like I should just go and speak to a business lawyer or something?

Well.. lets just touch on this real quick..

Don't call consumers, call businesses since there isn't a do not call list for businesses. Don't use scrapers to harvest emails and send it out in bulk.

You literally CAN... POOOF...overnight get started in this business, I did. I started without a lawyer although my family is pretty much all in law so I was kind of covered there. I didn't have a business license at the time either. Risky, but I didn't exactly have anything to lose either though.

Email an accountant in your area asking what you require to start your business. Get whatever they suggest. Make it a real business.
