Touchdown Jesus and pizza

I found these two websites on the sowpub forum posted by Phil. While they aren't mine, they are my inspiration.

The first is Touchdown Jesus. When you go to the blog you have to scroll down to read the story. If that story doesn't get you going, well, your engine is stuck in neutral. It can be found at:

Yellow Pages Commando

The second piece is a bit of a screwy way to do business but it certainly was effective. Not only effective but proved a point. No, I am not advocating advertising in yellow pages. It is their video and they proved a point. It can be found at:

Yellow Pages - Hidden Pizza Restaurant (Clemenger BBDO Melbourne) - YouTube

It is my opinion we are a resourceful bunch and what we really need is a little inspiration every now and then. So, then is now.

Enjoy...

    Hey Tom,

Very cool story about "Touchdown Jesus" and that is coming from a Michigan fan (Go Blue!)

Thanks for the post but I honestly think this hidden pizza test case is pretty skewed. They did say they ran an ad for the offer on the yellowpages site and of course they had to create a listing for the pizza shop on the site as well.

Then of course they issued a challenge in exchange for a free pizza so who isn't going to go the EXTRA mile to get a free pizza?

Also I see they are using the color yellow in the graphics so they subliminally predisposed people to go to yellowpages sites to try and find the company.

The same thing could have been done on yelp or kudzu so it isn't anything special at all.

I couldn't find the Jesus story though but I might have overlooked it.

      Rus,

When you click on the link, scroll down to the story titled:

What will you tell your grandkids?

Immediately below the headline is a huge picture of Touchdown Jesus on the Notre Dame campus. Everytime ND has a home game at least one announcer has to reference it.

I'm not a ND fan, I'm a Sooner but I loved the story.

      Have a great day,

      Tom

Totally agree about the process being "fixed", however their is much to be learned from a marketing point of view.

When a small biz owner watches it all he sees is lots of people and the yellow page name being used over and over.

If you can produce a similar "testiomonial" video it can go a long way towards getting you even more clients.

      Eddie,

I agree w/both you and Rus but I like your explanation a tad better. To me, at least, your last sentence is the point. We all know what YP really did so people would find that restaurant. Let's face facts if it was truly hidden it would have stayed that way. Maybe, just maybe, if we had that same sort of testimonial over kill in the videos we produced for our clients we probably would get more clients and they'd get more customers.
