Save your clients £50k and get NEW clients - But be QUICK!!!

Hi all

Here an idea that I'm probably gonna run with my business partner.

The EU Cookie law will come into force on the 26th May 2012 and stipulates that you must ask for consent to track a users website activity. Those that don't comply may face a £50k fine.

Here's what you do:

Find as many markets / sites you want to target, pick up the phone and
offer a solution to place cookie consent codes on their website for free.

Free solution
Silktide - Become compliant

Make the point that it may cost them £50k if they don't do this.

Offer to do it for free and build your relationship from there. You can say something like,

"The reason why I'm offering this free service is because I realise that all website must comply or face a hefty £50k fine and if you're happy with my service, maybe we can do some business in the future"

Something to that effect. Go with the flow. This is sure to add more/new leads to your business.

Tips, find web design agency websites and target their client example sites or whatever niche you want.

The law of reciprocity, will ring true here, I hope. Give something away for free of value and then reel them in.

Let me know your results.

Best regards
Michael

Great idea, I am charging new clients a one off £50 to make them compliant, giving it to current clients for free.

It's the same effect, a nominal fee for a 50k saving, you're now they're web solution guy.

Does this only pertain to the UK or European Market?

I'm going to sound like a total d*ck right now, but my solution is simple yet harsh: host your site in the US and focus on the US market. Problem solved.

Not gonna lie: that's not the main reason why I shifted my focus. The ease of scaling the bizz is. But still, avoiding the cookie law is a nice little extra haha

This is a really exellent idea. But do we really need to hurry?
Even after the deadline passes I am certain many websites will not be compliant. We should still be able to offer them the service. In fact it will be even more urgently needed. Correct?

Think this through, why would they target the US market when their business is located in Europe and they own a shop there? That would be extremely stupid for them to do that.

Lol, my friend, my shop's location could be anywhere on the freaking planet because I sell online marketing services. I don't need a brick and mortar store. Never did. That's why. The European market is too divided (too many languages) to scale quickly enough, unless you have a boat load of cash which almost no startup owner has.

.......we aren't talking about your business, we are talking about the brick and mortar stores and how to make money off of them.
