How to market web design services

Hi Guys,

We started this web design and social media service website. I was wondering what is the best way to market it, both offline and online. Does Anyone have any tips or can redirect me to an ebook that can enlighten us on how to effectively market these types of services to small businesses?

Thanks,

These are the best ways to generate Leads.

The key is to use a combination of methods. 2 or three at a time rather than wasting your time and money on just one.

Look up "FabJob Guide Web Design" in google and you'll come across a Fabjob guide on how to start and build your own web design business, which is directed at freelancers and full blown business owners. I know Sitepoint has some good info on web design. They also have a Web Design Business kit as well. Just google "web design kit sitepoint" and click the 1st result to check it out.

So you're a marketing firm calling yourself "Fortune 500" but you don't know how to market your OWN company? I think there's something wrong here. Just hope your future clients don't see this thread or they may have some questions for you.

Think this is a very good idea - you do need some "show-homes" in your portfolio. I'd certainly not hire anyone unless I'd seen some of their work first.

It's also worth signing up as a designer on something like 99 designs. The quality of designers on there is very variable and if you're good you'll shine through and start winning commissions. I know several designers who have started off using third party sites like this to get the ball rolling. Once people like your designs they'll start using you directly.

And word of mouth / personal referrals I think are the strongest and cheapest form of marketing!

      Good luck!

Warning Before You Buy Traffic – Make sure you’re using a fraud detection tool to flag any fraud/fake traffic. Fraud can be as high as 30%+ even with so called reputable ad-networks. Works on all media buys incl. banners, pops etc.

99 designs is a great idea if they can fork out 599.99. Homestead may be a better choice according to other posts here.

SEO is a nice way to market web design services. They can help you develop a solid social media presence that helps your company to build a customer base that remains loyal for the long term. They also provides a website maintenance service that removes the daily responsibilities and burdens associated with proper daily website management from off your shoulders. So I think SEO is a good option for marketing.

I find link building is very hard with web design companies. You have to get creative but there is no shortage of benefits when you finally reach the first page of Google.

While the original poster might be gone I think this is a great thread for anyone who stumbles across it in the future.

The best way to do this is to pick a few of the methods suggested already and focus on them. You don't want to put all your eggs in one basket and usually marketing works best with a couple methods combined. Personally I like using SEO, social media, and standard in person networking. Once you have some clients and work under your belt word of mouth is huge too for referrals.

Wanted to get some free passive traffic from google initially. But no lluck.

An avenue for generating business is business networking events. You can meet the people face to face, have a good informal chat, leave an impression etc. they are invaluable for local businesses. You might also come across potential partners, services etc that you may need also. Use google and find some in your local area. They are plentiful in most places around the world.

What a business really needs is NOT a best method but instead a marketing system.
A marketing system is not just one thing.
It’s a combination of things working together.
At the start up phase it’s better for you to focus on methods that can yield fast results in a limited budget.
Cold calling obviously, classifieds and print ads comes to mind.
Publicity methods like press releases are very effective if you are creative enough to invent something newsworthy.
Seminars are also effective for lead generation.
Since you asked for a book I suggest you read Guerilla Publicity by Jay Conrad Levinson.
    I found it on amazon.
