Dominating Local Keywords is easy, Finding them is Hard

Perhaps I overlook this. I know so many more people would search for Paving, rather than Paving in Sacramento. But, how can I find out how many people are searching in Sacramento? Is there a way?

Should I just try to dominate Paving, while my address is in sacramento, or include sacramento in my keywords too? All while hoping for a good search turnout in my area? Obviously they'll be in my descriptions and such, but as far as including them in my keywords and which I should choose? This would be for google places and video rankings in this case.

p.s. I'm not in sacramento I just know a lot of warriors are from california.

We all run into this problem. I don't know of anyway to figure out how many of the 18,000 searches come from Sacramento. Worse, I don't know how to optimize the unqualified term for Sacramento searches only. So you try to dominate paving as searched in Sacramento and you're still in a national fight for the search term. I don't know any way around that other than Google Places or video.

no, but put the location into the keyword tool and it will tell you how many of those searches (broad or exact) are made and since its unlikely that someone in Dallas is searching for paving in Sacremento (unless moving there or searchign on someone elses behalf) so its a safe bet those searches are from people in Sacremento (or near enough/ connected with it) .

Other than that dont get what youre looking for

    Hey,

I know this could be tough initially. What I did was I optimized my major keyword with state (not city) and got good traffic from it. Made 1 page for each state and in the content also added names of major cities.

I am sure it would work for you too. If you want to view a website where I have used it, feel free to pm me.

    Thanks!

If you have a google map optimize for the keywords you are trying to rank for. (I optmize google maps and offer awesome prices).
If you are looking for keywords for areas around your business check out this site. http://www dot 5minutesite dot com/local_keywords dot php
Check the list in google KWT and find out which towns/ areas have a search volume. As mentioned above I have done very well ranking KW's with just the state abbreviation.

    Grey38,

Got your PM, they wont let me PM back. Limited number of posts. Anyways, please check my signatures this is the website I am talking about.

Scroll to the bottom of the home page to see pages for main keyword and the state.

At the moment we have redirected all the pages to home page (have to make content compliant to FTC laws for the industry), so you wont be able to see a page with cities and content but you will get the idea. Maybe you can check G cache if it has any pages listed.
