HI Chris depends of you're wanting to communicate with outsourcers too or if its just internal 'sorting' of your projects

Ideally something thats going to be around in 10 years time and grows with your business.
I use Basecamp, bit of overkill in some ways but pretty solid to still be around in a number of years and with the R&D to grow with my business as required ie upgrading etc

I use BaseCamp, you can actually manage unlimited projects for just $150/month or start off with just the $20/month plan for 10 projects. Plus, they are offering a free trial right now

I don't use basecamp because I'd spend too much time managing projects with all the bells and whistles.

I started using collabtive about 4 or 5 months ago and that works out perfectly for me.

Aren't there any good, free alternatives available? I am surprised to hear about so many people spending money on this...especially on a monthly basis. I could understand it if it were for a larger operation, but I would have assumed that the majority of us are running 1 to 3 man shows.

I am currently running Linux/Mint, so I will have to have a look see.

Collabtive... if there is something I need and can utilize and there is an open source alternative I use it. Collabtive is free, easy to set up on your own server, mine is working on hostgator and everything for projects is run off that. I use vtiger as my lead management and CRM though, which is another open source platform.

        I use 2 different programs:

greensamba :for personal project management (JUST AWESOME)

Splashall :client, bus projects, salesteam, managers, workers

        * Splashall is currently in beta... public launch should be soon in June. So stay tuned! (I used to use basecamp)... but with splashall, I create a project, upload all files involved and then separate who can access what part of the project files accordingly. Every person involved gets their own 'account' to log in and access the files they have access to. ex: client gets access to "how to use your new _______" video training + updates as workers complete jobs; --> salesteam gets access to "how to sell ______: cold call, email, etc" training videos + any sales media like flyers, scripts etc --> workers get access to "create _______ job order + any relevant training or instructions.....

        Compartmentalize:
        KEEP EVERYONE SEPARATE!!

On the FREE route, use multiple Google Aps accounts & be REALLY ORGANIZED.

I've used MS Project for years and Sharepoint. I might take a look at some of these other ones though.
