Hi just wanted to ask opinions on a situation i have

The situation
iv recently been in contact with a potential client but he has a very limited budget and he is currently using adwords to get new customers and he can only afford to do one or the other..

so he wants to do a trial period as no other seo firm has offered to do this but im not sure if i want to do this or how i can make money from this because potentially once i get him to page one he might just not pay me and then i would be left with nothing for the hard work i have put into getting him onto page one

PLEASE can some one help me in what route i should take ?

Paul

    "Nope."

    You don't work for free.

"Mr. Prospect, I get the impression--and maybe I'm wrong--that you aren't convinced this is going to work for you. If this is true, could you share with me what the reason is?"

    And address it.

Very dicey. I wouldn't take on a client who has no money. You can't generate business if you don't invest.

I've seen models where you get them to give you $1 down and the rest upon performance. That way you have their credit card. But I wouldn't do that with someone who's told you they have no money. This will suck up your time. Go find someone excited.

You need to decide if you are in a position to offer charity.

If so, help the guy out (a little) and let him go.

If not, make the decision he would probably make & put your welfare first.

Maybe a lead generation model would work for this one. You can rank videos or sales pages; if he wants to leave, you can sell to a competitor in the same industry.

Agree with what others have said. also, those who can barely pay anything aren't worth it and they don't benefit as much as someone who is willing to pay for better service, so the low payer isn't usually satisfied anyway. I used to do whatever to get business, now I don't.

The answer really depends upon the client and the SEO situation (obviously).

The only solution to this would be to produce a landing page under your control (i.e. on your web site - to demonstrate your abilities) which could be targeted to another customer should payment not be forthcoming.

Remember, until the fee has been paid, the page(s) are still your copyright.

I will have to agree mostly with everyone else. Move on to another. However if you want a different angle I will provide that also just so you have it.

    1. Find out if they have any measurement of what client base is being brought in by what they are paying now with adwords.

    2. Either your services are worth that money or not. So If you want this client offer a money guarantee that their number of prospects won’t drop from what they are paying now.

There is no reason that their numbers should decrease changing over to your services.

Close with a money back guarantee if you can do what adwords is doing for them or more, but you need to offer other services that adwords does not offer or there is no reason for change.

  • Hi thanks for all the responses the route i decided to take was offer a trial period but $220 upfront for my time and effort and if i can not successfully improve his rankings then i will refund his money pretty simple idea and after iv improved his rankings the refund is void so its a win win situation and stated that we can then discuss a full seo plan/ campaign for his website so hopefully he will go for this as i am certainly not doing it for free..

another idea what i thought would be a good idea and few people have also posted was to set up a website that i own and get that ranked and get him to pay for leads and if he cant afford to or doesnt want to i will just move on and ask some one else.. im sure some one on page 2 onwards would be happy with a lot more clients

    thanks for all your responses

I would forget about this guy. You don't need to sell every prospect. If you try to accommodate just to sell your service you are headed for trouble. Best of to qualify your prospect if possible. If you are dealing with someone with not much of a budget it will do neither of you any good to move forward.
The only way I would even consider doing a trial on something like that is if I owned the property.
