SEO question

I have a potential client that I met with today and his site got slapped pretty hard by the latest update. (went from spot 3 (pg1) to about the 10th page).

Heres my question, is there a way to find out the exact reason "why" his site got slapped so hard? ( I am aware of the latest update that sites are penalized for unnatural links and for being overoptimized upon other things)...

Is this fixable or would it be better to buy a new domain name and go from there....

    Hi Daniel,

    It's definitely fixable. One thing I would check is their on page SEO over optimized? If so, work on reducing the amount of keywords. Also make sure that his meta titles and descriptions aren't over optimized too.
    How many keywords was he targeting with link building? The days of targeting 5 main keywords are over when it comes to link building. Be sure to come up with a list of core keywords and secondary keywords to target. The more keywords you target the better. When I mean target more keywords, I'm talking about 100+.
