Google + / Places Ranking questions

I have a customer with a new site, new domain (4 months old).

1) If I'm ranking a customer for keywords should I go ahead & build out & link their places page to their website from the beginning of the campaign?

2) If I do the above, will they show up in the SERPs on lower pages, say result 78?

The reason I'm asking is, I'm looking to give the client a monthly report. I want to understand what I'm doing so I can report correctly. I didn't know if once they have a +/places page, it removes them from the organic SERPs & place them in the "More results near City, State" that is directly below the 7 pack.

    1.) Yes
    2.) Not necessarily
3.) This is almost cetainly nonsense: I didn't know if once they have a +/places page, it removes them from the organic SERPs & place them in the "More results near City, State" that is directly below the 7 pack. Where did you get this?

Thanks for the responses. I'm just asking, because I don't know.

So, when the rankings are increasing, does it go to bottom of page 1 organic to #7 of the 7 pack?

Organic ranking and Google Places ranking are two seperate things. You could be no. 1 in the organics but nowhere in places (very unlikely since the venice update but it's possible). I don't know where you've got your info from but someone's either talking rubbish or you've had crossed wires somewhere along the way.

I have a basic google places seo guide on my blog but there is loads of info out there. Check out Mike Blumenthal's blog if you really want to get stuck in to it.

10/10 for having the balls to sign someone up for something you don't have a clue about btw! Respect!

Thanks man. I know how to rank organically, I'm no expert by any means and more importantly I don't consider any question dumb. I've got a couple guides to rank Places/+, I just didn't know they were separate rankings.

          Thanks for the info.

yeah qu4rk no worries mate. If you have a good grasp of organic localised seo you should have no problem getting his google places/+ local page ranking. Since the Venice update the organic authority of a domain has become a much more important Google Places ranking factor.

Good luck and if you need any help don't be afraid to ask.

Certainly you should go for link building. It may take time to come in search result just starting a site. You have to work hard and need to wait few days to be ranked.

Yes, Organic and Google Places/Maps/+/Local....what ever we are going to call it now are separate. Optimize both the old Places and Google+ Local Page at this time. I don't see a full switch to Google+ yet. Create many citations, we have been using yext.com to help us see which directories are not complete as well.

Hey guys. Here's a book on Local SEO that I sell on Amazon. This link download is free. This is a legitimate book on How To: Local SEO. There is NO upsell and this is NOT a marketing document.

    http://localmarketingsource.com.s3.a...20Business.pdf

If you're interested, the boys over at SEO Brain Trust (Dan Thies and Leslie Rhode) have asked me to do a presentation for their students on the changes at Google+ Local from Places. If you want, hope onto my list at Local Marketing - Small Business Internet Marketing - Local Internet Marketing and in the next couple of days I'll send you the invite.

Although, I'm sure the link to the replay will eventually make in on here too.

So my question now is how do we pitch the Google Places/Local+ service now? Before it was doing keyword research and finding those not in the 7 pack (on page 2 and down and/or doing adwords or have not claimed their listings) and contacting them to pitch your service on how you need to be on page 1 and in the top of the 7 pack to be found and get search traffic.

Does this still hold true now and can I still offer this service except just now call it Google Local+ instead of Google Places? And as far as setting up the Google Local+ and optimizing it will be the same as the old Google Places?

So with the new layout there is no longer an indication of "non-verified" or "verified" listings like before when we could just target those who did not claim their listings?

    Any feedback?

    mrtrance....

this is an age old question I've debated for years.....the packaging of the offer.

My perspective is the value to the business owner. I don't think they care about rankings, or even phone calls....they want customers.

So my job is to get them qualified customers. I do this by getting high in the serps. I charge a fair price, allocate 30% variable budget to content, and figure out what we need to do in order to get results. Period.

So, the algo changes. Local is included in Organic. Since we've targeted local businesses, our Search Marketing service never changed...we don't have 'local seo' and 'organic'. We must deploy services to satisfy all needs, and prove a ROI for our clients.

We're launched video for our search marketing clients, social, review report, reputation management, review acquisition and local publication distribution.

In other words, we look at what we need to do in order to show value. then decide the SEO that's needed to deliver that and then package our service. Not the other way around where it appears many people operate.

Can I please recommend you get a course on this... Let me be a little shameless here. I created a video coaching course that will show you how to crush Google Local...

This is just for Maps/Places. I won't show you how to get customers, looks like you have that down. But I will show you how to be a rockstar for your client.

Google Maps: Get Listed On Google Maps - Get Listed On Google Places | Local Search Engine Blueprint

If you don't buy my course, go buy somebody's course on this. It will really help you.

By the way domain age, don't worry about. Just drop it on a dedicated ip address and build a really good strong site. Domain has nothing to do with Google Local listings. You want your client to be in both Google Local and Google organic.

    Have Fun,

PS: If you want the course, send me a PM and I will send you a 50% off coupon. Just buy a course and give your clients value... Just saying.
