How to get Facebook fans to a local window company?

I've already 'Liked' many other FB pages in and around the niche, made comments on several, 'Liked" some of their posts, shared some of the posts, etc, but no one has 'Liked' my clients page yet! Client doesn't want to do FB ads.

I would really prefer to not get a bunch of irrelevant fans through a fiverr gig. And I don't want to ask personal friends or family to be a fan.

Any suggestions? What do you do for your clients to get new fans to a new FB page without ads?

I own a window company and I've had a heck of a time getting fans as well over the past few years. I'm terrible at keeping up on social media anyways, I never update anything.

People aren't going to really be interested in a window company unless they need windows at that moment. There's no need to really "like" something that is only something of interest for a short time in my opinion.

But... when they ARE interested it's good to have some content on there particularly pictures and mentions of jobs that they've completed. That's where you will get some likes.

Do you mind if I ask what the plan is for this facebook page? How will it be used to generate business for the client?

I would suggest getting the current clients to like your pages. As you go out and service them give them an incentive to like your page.

The plan for the website is just part of the companies social presence and to offer special deals to Facebook fans now and then. Eventually there will be an opt-in form in one tab.

I think the company really needs a mailing list so that they can mail promotions a couple times a year, but also offer an exchange to another related business and do cross promotions, once they have a large enough list.

I have some posts in there already with window cleaning tips, window coverings, links to articles about energy efficient homes, etc.

May I suggest you have a look at
    socialmediaexplode dot com
I have used this site with huge success. The site really does perform getting FB likes and G+'s and other platforms to.

Now I know you want to get local likes but if visitors to your page see a huge Likes list, then I have found they are more inclined to join the party. That creates the additional problem of targeting your desired list as you will have Likes from all over the world.

I guess my point here is just to give the page some "traction" by using this service.

I will take a look at that socialmediaexplode site. Not sure yet if I will go that way. I would still much rather have local fans 'Like' the page of course.

    Still open to more suggestions.

Does the business owner have a current list of all customers who have used their services in the past (preferably with email addresses)? If so, the first step would be contacting them to let them know about your Facebook page. I would also make every effort to be sure that the Facebook address is included on all of your stationery (business cards, letterhead, etc.). These are what I call "soft" methods of promoting your business.

Next -- there needs to be incentive. People have to have a reason to be your fan. So, you can run a contest for people who have gotten their windows done in the past. Maybe you can have them take a picture next to their new windows and then have their friends "like" the post. You can also run this contest through a variety of tools (Rafflecopter is free).

The winner will get a free gift card somewhere - maybe a restaurant or something, but not to your own business - since people don't know the value of a window replacement until they need one.

Also, if they aren't blogging, they should start. That can drive folks back to the Facebook page as well.

Ultimately, there are quite a few things you can do - this is just the tip of the iceberg...

Personally, I found Facebook very unpredictable. There are times when some people work Facebook to their benefit with ease and then, there are some who do so much but gain nothing. The method used by you is a good one and the result should soon be seen, i suppose. All the best!

This company doesn't want to spend much money at all. So they won't be changing any print materials to include FB promotion until they need to.But I like the gift card incentive and I will see if they are willing to go for this.

They are as tight with their time as they are with money too, so blogging won't be happening except for a few articles here and there and some press releases.

Thanks for these. I will do what I can with what you've mentioned and if anyone has more ideas, please share ...

The gift card incentive, is a great idea. You could also combine it with Facebook mobile "text to like" feature. For example: Send a text message to 32665 (FBOOK) with the words “fan yourusername” OR “like yourusername” and the user could get a discount on the next order or something like that.

before you figure how to generate new fans from new traffic, you might figure out how to get existing customers to be your fans.
You might ask them to like your fan page , so they will recommend to others by sharing your facebook fan page. For new fans, most of the time you need to give some giveaway like your company products and service or something related to them and they will come to you . Those fan is quality because they need your product and service but just the matter of pay and free. And here is where you need to show what you can benefit and offer them .
FB is like World of Mouth , something free or something good, people will help you share and you will start gaining new fans to join you .

I have worked with a furniture store and they now have close to 2,000 Likes. If can be done with targeted followers. You could use Facebook Ads and Sponsored Stories.
Here is a YouTube Video I did for business owners, covers ways to get more Likes.

Excellent. I did just set up a twitter account (because its easier to get followers here and doesn't matter if they are local that much) hoping I could get some to 'Like' the FB page. Hasn't happened yet.

Thanks James Hickey for this video it did help. I linked the FB and Twitter accounts to share posts.

I like the sms text messaging idea and will have to see if these 'old school' clients will actually go for this.

    Love all the suggestions. Thanks.

How many local people work there? Do they have families? Kids graduating from High School or any of that sort of thing? If this company added photo albums and posts about their "valued employees" and their families, you'd probably get more "likes" from local people; especially if these people were "tagged" in the photos.

It's best to create a fanpage that relates to windows in general or maybe somthing like a fanpage on interior designs. The thing with facebook users is that people like to engage and look at fun things. People in facebook share things that fascinates them. To gather fans without advertising, comment on related niches to make your page known. Always update your fanpage, i update mine twice a day and make controversial posts that prompts my fans to share the posts or like them.

    • Create informative and instructional content (how-to's, photos, videos etc.) on your site
    • Make sure your site has social sharing links
    • Share your content on FB
    • Give advice and respond to questions
    • Know your customers and go where the are. Where can you find homeowners besides FB?
    • Remember content is king. No content, no likes
Give people something to like. Personally I do not like something just because someone asks or for the sake of doing so. The source must be interesting and have informative content. A few helpful links:

I blogged on and posted a video that Leo Burnett did on Social Media Engagement, it is unconventional and thinking outside of the box but it is a great model.

Angela, I will see if I can get the company employees to 'Like' the page to help give it some traction. Worth trying.

Thanks for all these helpful suggestions everyone.
