I need a US Business database

I'm in need of a US business listings database in csv or excel format. Actually what I need is one state so if anybody has a good fairly up to date resource for this please pm me or just post the source if it's not top secret.

I've done all the basic searches on G etc so please don't point me to a search engine.

      Hi there End2End,

I was looking around for CA business files so that I can create new databases within Facebook for a marketing campaign.

I noticed you didn't mind popping that over to someone here in the WF.

I am looking to acquire that data :0)

      .... and Happy New Year!

        Hello Josh,

Could I get some insights from you? I'm looking to download an entire US database. I'm most interested in annual sales and credit score. If they have year started. That'd be great too.

        Thanks.

Gotcha, are you looking for individuals information or just the company info. Does your message have a specific intended recipient or group of recipients and how are you going to be contacting them?

I hope I'm able to help, I am actually planning on reviewing Infofree myself this week. The guy who was previously the CEO of Infogroup now owns Infofree.

I agree. Very good source and free at your local library. BTW, have you tried the Secretary of State for the state in which you are interested? They probably already have it on disk and at a reasonable price.

You really can't beat infofree. I've got over 500 of my members signed up for it and most of them have been paying for it for a year now. They are still in the beta stage actually and when they come out of beta the normal price of $99.95 will be applicable so you should jump on it now (use a coupon code).

Your local library might give you access to free business databases. Two local library systems of mine do. Try that.

Two posters have already mentioned this, but your local library system may have subscriptions to many of these databases. In King County (basically the Puget Sound region around Seattle) the library system is outstanding and they have subscriptions to most online databases. And better yet, a staff that will help you out!

Subscribed for 12 months on www.globaldatabase.com. Overall, a decent database. The country which I subscribed, UK, had data for 280k companies and the email address and phone numbers ok 470k executives.

    Pros:
    Daily updates during your subscription
    Free data export in XL
    Job change alerts
    Covers 195 countries

    Cons:
Can be expensive for a startup (1,990 USD)
You need to pay for each country
Mobile numbers are not provided for each contact

For me, it was enough to make one single sale to make a ROI.
I was using LinkedIn before, however, I was not able to get an email address or a phone number for each contact, so Global Database was a gold mine I was looking for.

infofree.com is a good source but it will cost you. Personally, I would recommend Reference USA as it is completely free. Only thing you need is a library membership. Its great and has databases of U.S. businesses as well as new businesses. You can easily download lists into a .csv file.

It's going to take forever to do an entire state that way. Usually the cap is around 200 per file with no suppressions.

Buying databases is a bad idea, most are very old and outdated. You also have the same DB sold over and over again, you get nothing unique.

Don't be silly. A good company, like the one I use updates their records every 30 days. That's how they get to charge top-dollar, which no one here wants to pay. You pay a crap price and you get a crap product. Just like everything else in life.

There are a few excellent list brokers. Don't paint them all with a broad brush.

Most of that data is available for free considering most US states require a state business license/permit and that data is public domain via online state databases.

I'm sure you're paying for convenience, not the actual data.

Time is money. I do get new business start-up data from my local County Clerk's office when individuals file their fictitious name registrations.

These are great leads as the person is always mystified how I got their number since many of them are still many months away from actually starting their business. It gets a good conversation going and after 10 minutes on the phone with me, I own them. Catching them that early provides an opportunity to sell them a full-range of services and when you tell them that you can provide different services that precludes them from running all over town while they work to get their doors open, they are thankful that you walked into their lives. Combine that with a few excellent references and you have hit the jackpot.

Being almost completely retired, I don't do this as much as I used to, but I thought I might pass the concept, along. I still get the data and depending on the type of business in question, there is good money to be made just for selling the leads, which I still devote a couple hours a week to doing. Easy money and it keeps me in the game. :-)

              Frank

P.S. I don't do 'free.' It's a word I loathe that just proves that one is a piker. You want the best, as I do, then be prepared to pay. Like they say, "it takes money to make money.."

My county makes them put one on the application at the time of filing. Oftentimes it is their home number if the business has not opened and usually they haven't.

Making sure the name you want to use for your business is available is the very first step to getting legally organized, so applying for the name is Step One.

I see, that makes sense. So there's a chance that my county doesn't require a phone number at the application time, in which case I would be out of luck?

I would think that most counties require a phone number.

Did you not legally register your own business and discover what is actually required? lol
