Making Serious money offline

How's my plan?

Firstly I've sold some websites via telemarketing before, but after I sold a few I stopped and moved on to the next shiny thing. But now I'm back, and I'm ready to hit the phones solid for the next few months.

My first question is how good do you think a newbie could get at telemarketing manually dialling for 4-5 hours a day, 4 days a week in 4 months. I know it's an impossible question but if anyone has seen other newbie telemarketer's progress in the same amount of time, what was their experience?

Next my plan is to use my local yellow pages and yellow pages I borrowed from another town when visiting. I'm going to target small business owners like John Durham advises, and I'm going to try and close them on the phone if their interested. I can't drive to meetings because frankly I'm a rubbish driver that hasn't passed his test yet, so I'm going to phone close which is probably going to be hard work considering I'm a new to telemarketing.

To take payments I'm going to send an invoice via PayPal and when I can afford to pay for a merchant account I will upgrade to take telephone payments.

To take payments I was going to say something like this:

"Now, as for payment Mr Prospect, I do all of my billing electronically, do you have access to your email right now or sometime later today?"
Does that sound ok or should I ask something else?

The Script I shall be using to find out if there's any interest is a mixture of what John Durham and Jason Kanigan teach, I've also changed it slightly so I won't get tongue tied and hopefully it will sound more natural.

The Script

Prospect: "Hello"

Me: "Hi, I'm not sure who I should be speaking with but maybe you can help me."

Prospect: "Ok"

Me: "My name's Ricky and I'm a new website designer that's just opened for business. I just wanted to give you a call and introduce my services and hopefully drum up some interest. Real quickly, do you have a website or have you ever considered getting one made?"

one thing I don't like about my script is that at any point I don't find out the prospects name, should I worry about this or doesn't it matter?
Hopefully I should make some money using the above method and if I do I'm going to reinvest in a good call list, and sell some more.

What do my fellow warriors think? Any advice, tips? I'm going to start selling tomorrow as well.

Thanks for reading.

Why not save yourself some time and research beforehand to see if they already have a website?

it would take far more time searching for their business online, than just calling them up and asking them. and one of my previous clients already had a website when i called him, he wasnt happy with it and since then ive made 2 websites for this customer. one for his roofing business and one for his building business.

if i searched and found out he had a site and i didnt contact him i would have missed out on atleast $1000

You could join The Telemarketing Forum and learn a ton over there about selling websites using your telephone. I believe you can also get info over there on using a remote dialing station which will dial numbers via VOIP and you just sit in front of your computer and go through the calls.

You'd have to check but I think you can also get leads loaded into the dialer. They used to give you a few hours a week on the dialer for free but I' not sure if they still do that. At any rate, it wouldn't hurt to go check it out.
