Post card marketing can work well as part of an offline lead gen campaign:
call the office, find out who makes decisions, tell them to expect a card
      send a card
follow up the card with a phone call

Ari Galper likes this method very much as well. He would tell you to mention the card only obliquely - "Mr. Prospect, I'm calling to answer your questions about the card, but before I do, I wonder if you can tell me about your PPC campaign, is it getting you the response you want..."

That's very much the way that the Leisure Leads WSO worked as well.

There's a guy on WF that specializes in postcard marketing. His WSO a year or two ago got absolutely rave reviews. I don't remember who it was. But you could search the WSO subforum.

Really? Don't you think that the smart and seasoned marketers in this community realize the idiocy in declaring any one medium as "Dead"

If you can't make direct mail work for you thats fine, or you just really hate the mailing thing... but certainly even you realize there are people in every marketing medium, making that medium work to some degree, no matter what it is.

Targeted direct mail is king...but it is not the only way direct mail is used successfully. There are ways to get exceptional marketing value from saturation mailings.

In fact...you take two competing businesses...rank one on local google, and the other doing saturation mailings...the Google guy will get mopped all over the floor...every time...without fail....no exceptions. The mailer guy will suck in the majority of the market 100+ times faster than the dingleberry who just sits and waits and hopes for people to go looking for him on Google.

Do I engage in the practice of getting my clients ranked locally on google...you bet I do....but I, unlike most of the wide eyed IM'ers around here, understand that Google alone, is pretty dang limited on what it can do for a business. For every 1 guy looking for a solution on google, there are 500 more who still need that solution, but are just still asleep at the wheel.

Direct Mail is how you can get to that other 500.

Direct mail is the ONLY medium that can reach every single possible prospect, everytime, at will. Nothing else can do that....not texting, mobile, facebook, radio, TV....nothing.

I bet I'm correct in saying either you or your wife go visit your mailbox every single day like clockwork....just like every other household across the land. The mailbox is a pretty powerful place, it is one of at least three places that get someones attention every single day ( the Bed and the bathroom) The medium itself has some pretty potent elements, and inate advantages over other mediums. So to wholly discount it and label it as dead is just baffling.

Of course...if you want to talk elite marketing tools...I'd say Direct Mail built with Variable Data Technology could very well be the most powerful marketing tool on the planet. ...Admitedly I am bias on that opinion, so it may take a hit on validity lol.

Smart marketers like yourself...instead of poo pooing direct mail....should be teaching your clients how to collect all sorts of data on their customers so they can utilize variable data technology to create robustly customized direct mail. In fact, this very practice would benefit their email efforts, and every other marketing mechanisms they have in play.

Next time your wife's favorite pizza joint, or department store sends her coupons...I want you to tear them up in front of her and declare "direct mail is dead, so these are of no use"

      ...and see what happens :p

er, what would you base that thought from?

I've lined many of pockets with gold lining from direct mail. To say
it is dead is AWESOME! I hope I am the only dude creating mail.

Bob Ross has an exciting WSO on a particular post card method. I can't recall what the name of it is. Matt Olsen has one called "post card power marketing. Then I know someone personally who has a post card marketing video course called Hybrid Marketing Blueprint (me). . It's in my signature.

Marketing with a postcard is an expensive way to get your offer thrown in the trash. That means it's not good for the environment. With mail costs, card cost, printing etc, you are easily around 30c - 65c per card.

Email marketing is dying with it, I just retired my list. SMS, is where it's at, highest open rates, highest conversion rates, lowest delivery cost.

Direct mail is dead, you should really look into digital marketing. Try email ecards or mobile ecards, they seem to be very effective now.

I appreciate that opinion. But it's difficult to blindly believe you when I'm making money with it....along with huge direct mail companies. Remember that last online marketing seminar that was promoted by direct mail?
The last Facebook marketing course? Google Adwords advertising offers?

      All direct mail.

I just did a campaign for one of my clients.

About every 5 years someone declares direct mail to be dead.

Every time I read that, I smile and go out and sell another direct mail project to a client who needs to drive traffic to a website, sell a product, or inform their prospects about their company. Direct mail is an effective tool that also works with other tools, line internet marketing, etc..

It's been that way for my entire career, from when I produced my first direct mailer, 40 years ago.

Long live direct mail, regardless of the flavor.

This is another one of those questions that show that the OP gave it little thought before asking.

Do you mean local postcard marketing to everyone with an address?

Do you mean national postcard marketing to a specialized list?

Do you mean to drive someone to a website, sell a product, get them to ask for more information?

Do you mean buying a list, and using postcards to segment the list?

Do you mean first class stamps on a postcard to a list of people you know nothing about? (OK, I admit..this one is a very bad idea)

You have to give us more information in the question or you'll keep seeing us debate without any idea what you are really after.

There is no "Postcard marketing course" that covers using postcards in every conceivable way, for every conceivable offer. You have to be more specific...please.

Yep, direct mail is definitely dead. That's why when I run liquidation sales they can do 1/2 month worth of sales in one day with most of the traffic coming from a plain 4 x 6 postcard with a simple message. You have the right message and the results are truly amazing. People still read their mail.

Direct mail is a vital component for any offliners' arsenal. I've seen
some rather plain postcards (like the one mentioned above) do
      extremely well.

That said, it is only one form of lead generation. It should be mixed
in with other tactics to accelerate your success rate

I would take an expert in copywriting over an expert in postcards I think.

Same thing here. I became a print broker and have been loving EDDM. I've been combining it with online marketing and building lists for my clients with it too!

Funny, I was thinking of listing my postcard designs as PLR today before I got this notification.
