where to rent out my direct mail list?

Hi guys,

I have a direct mailing list of 5,000 highly responsive UK buyers of my products that I want to rent out.

I have been advised that due to the high rate of response from this list, that I should charge no less than £1000 per mailing (to keep it unsaturated)

The only problem I am finding is I don't know where to advertise the list...as if I offer it here on the WF, I don't have the systems in place to stop the data being copied.

Your help would be appreciated!

Sam.

You mean direct mailing or emailing? Emailing, you would offer a solo ad and no, you wouldn't charge 1K, that would be a rip off for most. Your list is responsive to your products, that doesn't mean they are responsive to somebody elses.

No I'm talking about renting it out for direct mailing.

I dunno then, I don't rent lists from anybody because 99% of the time it's useless. It's also a little strange that a responsive list of yours, you'd risk over saturating it with offers by renting it out. Why would you need income from renting the list out if it's THAT good? You know? That's a bit sketchy.

There is nothing wrong with renting out your mailing lists. That's what all the big boys do. Look up SRDS at your local library and you'll see what I mean. I rent lists all the time. For example: Victoria Secret rent out their mailing list. (I should say that I am speaking for the U.S. market)

There is a company called Nextmark that rent out list for their owners. I am not sure if your list is too small for them. You can contact them and ask how to go about renting your list or google a list broker and ask the same. If no one rented out their list, then there wouldn't be direct mail as we know it. Good Luck.

In fact I just rented a targeted list of buyers for a direct mail campaign I did last Friday. I did a test of 5000 names and as of today I got a 2% response rate (bought my item) which is great. My campaign made money. Not all campaigns are successful but you can make money from renting out your names and renting names from a list owner. Plus it keeps the list active. The cost to rent was $100 per 1000 - 5000 min.

Because i don't always have new products to market to my list...I want to be able to earn from the list inbetween my own mailings instead of the database just sitting on my hard drive inbetween my campaigns.

          Nothing sketchy about that.

Also,I've read that lists become more responsive if they're moderately marketed to (not regularly but moderately) rather than a couple of times a year.

          Thanks for your thoughts though.

          Sam.
